Arlen, >> Thank you, yet again, for perfectly proving my point: >> o You have _zero_ added value in Q&A threads while I have plenty. :-) And now I'm expected to come up with proof of the opposite ? I don't think I'll bite. But thats one of the games you keep playing, innit ? Just throwing accusations around and demand that thoe other disproves it. While at the same time absolutily refuse to do anthing of the same yourself. Rather transparent though. As for your "added value" ? When was the last time that you actually *helped* someone here ? I'd like to read that message. I don't think it exists though. As for your "tutorials" being "added value" ? You already know what I think of them - and can easily be verified by looking back to the few you actually "gave back" to Usenet. Needlesly complex and inconsistent crap, most of it. And at times even dangerous too. And, in your own words: "Thank you, yet again, for perfectly proving my point:" :-) You again ignore *everything* that, on a silver platter, has been presented to you, and go for the person instead. You do not even *try* to counter anything, let alone disprove it. Quite telling you know. >> I realize you _hate_ that fact Rudy Wieser; but it's _still_ a fact. :-) s/realize/fantasize/ As for it being a fact (both parts actually) ? Some wishfull thinking on your part I'm afraid. But hey, prove that your "tutorials" are actually helpful. Find some people that have actually used them and let them value them. I dare you. :-) >> Here's just _one_ example of my added value in Q&A threads: >> o Offline USGS topo isocline map desktop app for creation & viewing of >> mobile device GPX tracks >> o >> <https://groups.google.com/d/msg/alt.comp.freeware/W3IjaKFeLrM/jhoF5hx8CAAJ> Its actually an example of the opposite: You gather *Usenet* "tribal knowledge", and than take it to next town over. Where it stays, never to find its way back to Usenet and the "tribe". And with the above think I can state that your contribution to the Q&A threads is - at best - actually absolutily *zero*. Unless you like to redefine as google groups being some part of usenet too ? But I think I should warn you: not everyone will agree with you there. :-) Also, as mentioned in the above, the fact that the "tutorials" you post there do not find their way back here shows it to be false too. >> Guess what Rudy .... You're _always_ wrong: >> It takes me 10 seconds to prove me right; it takes 10 seconds to prove >> you wrong. Luckily, I'm one of those peple who knows he *can* make mistakes and be wrong. Something you still have to learn and/or how to deal with it. Hopefully you will do that *before* you become an adult, otherwise I see a bleak future for your personal as well as your professional life ... >> Rudy Wieser - where is a link to _your_ added value to a Usenet Q&A >> potluck? o *Name just one* Wasn't I clear enough for you ? I have *no* intention to go anywhere near your "Q&A potluck"s anymore. Also, I could give you a number of them. But than you would most likely (understatement) simply switch to declaring that none of it is comparable to your own prowess (as you fantasize it to be) and declare a win for yourself that way. Kiddo, I've seen that behaviour in people of all ages. :-) As for your closing "request" ? You simply made your post circular by ending with exactly what you started with: a demand that others prove their worth to you. Fat chance of that though, seeing how you respond to people who already have shown you to have a track record that ssems to far surpass yours. But as you brought it up, where did *you* work when created all those tutorials, and in what position ? What is *your* track record ? And ofcourse, where can we find all those tutorials, or even just a few of them. Why don't you just prove to *us* (instead of always the other way around) that you are who you claim to be ? You see, up until this moment *NONE* of what you have claimed to be has *any* kind of underbuilding. You expect us to believe you solely on your say-so, while you time-and-time-and-time again (and no, thats no mistake) demand from us to prove ourselves. Bit of an inbalance there, won't you say ? :-) Regards, Rudy Wieser P.s. Strange that your "rebuttal" to me didn't turn up in either of the newsgroups I posted my message to. Didn't quite want to have another quabble with me but wanted to make the others believe you actually had perhaps ?

I often have to drop a bunch of assumptions I made from it, and than re-design whatever I'm currently working at. Oh wait ... Yes, it is fun, isn't it ? :-) But seriously. There is a saying that you do not learn as much as from the things you're doing right as from the things you're doing wrong. I did run across, I think alt.microcontrollers.8-bit (or something to that effect), but upon a quick perusal, there was but a single post from several years back as I recall. I wouldn't mind coming across a group for the controllers ... forums are okay and all, but having everything in one place would be really nice. For a brief moment, I considered looking up how to start a group, but since there are _so many_ forums, etc. I figured it'd be me posting to myself. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQEzBAEBCAAdFiEEBcqaUD8uEzVNxUrujhHd8xJ5ooEFAlxPStUACgkQjhHd8xJ5 ooHMqAf6A545oxFueDMQN/KUXtimNRgAF/ts4xn+lM3OxhQnsgAt3W9cVlD3o/OG RowA0SUkTMPnJZ+/MjBOzIggwCz4Yempn+vCCOPB7u6d8XvsYkv+j0lll26vZpjr bKWJj14JXWtQjS8xf0cMgzr9bqm74ILO6ZlrLKAYMBucYXKo9D7CkFm1FSkEBhII jEkd/WXeBLb0LmQtq39gdM6wmu2FZL/MZksZHhB9YaddSZDL7WO8+hce0b72mhJ0 tYerDN6EISOvSZhbQoAlbsdn1cwlxitKUWYPIkf11PzSyGfWUoNfi1JPxZGBYdEO Xws25EAA7bYUqyHrq1r6aOWpPffcvQ== =Md1R -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- |_|O|_| |_|_|O| Github: https://github.com/dpurgert |O|O|O| PGP: 05CA 9A50 3F2E 1335 4DC5 4AEE 8E11 DDF3 1279 A281

Make that alt.microcontrollers.8bit ... last post was someone whining

Dan,

Often, but not always. Some people are truly good in what they do (1). But
than the higher-ups who could get their fingers on them (and keep them
there - which is another (office) game altogether) would (ofcourse) not
hesitate to let his peers know of "their" prowess.
(1) Once met a man who, in the days when TVs stil had picture tubes, could
tell exactly what was wrong with quite many different makes simply by
looking and listening when they where switched on.

Those too. But I was referring to the real-life stories about IT-related
mistakes and they got away with it. In some of the stories the culprit
even confesses to the boss and *doesn't* get kicked out. How 'bout that ?
Pretty unbelievable, no ? :-)

Its a possibility that he's actually unable to do so. In that case he
would be much like a sociopath. But even though we than canot blame him
for his actions we cannot tolerate them either.
On the other hand, his way of responding to *anything* that amounts to any
kind of critique even on just what he is busy with to created makes me think
differently. It might simply be his shown superiority complex which
blocks him from accepting anything else than what acknowledges and/or
enhances it.
And if that is so he must be internally, and even unbeknown to him
conciously, raging with anger because he has to time-and-again beg for those
"inferior" to him to give him what he needs, as he simply can't do it
himself.
A few messages back I wrote "How do you keep that juxtaposition in your
head, and not getting crazy ?". I was not really kidding there ....

Arlen, if you are (still) reading this: This is how simple it is: I've
brought forward that I think something went wrong, and he acknowledged it.
Case closed. He also could also have countered it with an explanation
showing me wrong though. In that case I would have been the one saying
"oops". Nothing more to it.

Not only that, but people in www.avrfreaks.net/forum I went to last year (I
think) couldn't get it thru their thick skulls that I did *NOT* want to
install C{something} to solve a stupid data-alignment problem with the
assembler I'm using. Rather infuriating. (ended up writing my own, rather
minimal, "preprocessor" for it, which works fine).

You mentioned the "alt.microcontrollers.8bit" newsgroup, and in the folow-up
you wrote that its all but dead for a couple of years now. As such it
looks like most peope hold that forum as sufficient to their needs. Alas.

Thing is, while golden-boy is "higher up" than me, he's still asking me
stuff about the "realities" of what the code does, after 3(ish) years in
the position.
Meh, the manglement is blinded by their "cookiecutter" experiences, and
thinks the original architects of our stuff (and later the maintainers
over the last decade) were bad / made bad decisions, so now they're
gonna get us cookiecutter and all will be solved (except it won't).

Yeah, Ive read some of those as well, but theyre not as fun :).

I was only speaking to those technical gaps exhibited here, rather than
in general -- that is, making the assertion that he perhaps finds
himself in the lower 50% or so of "skilled with computers" people.
I'm bad enough at programming (among other things) -- don't need to add
"Usenet psych" to that list :)

Heh, and playing around with these new "1-series" chips (specifically an
ATTiny416 on a "xplained nano" demoboard), the only "beginner" stuff I
can find is in ASM.
Was "fun" fumbling through the datasheet to learn the right C macros to
get the blinkenled working. But at least that seems the worst of the
changes as compared to what I know from working with the other chips to
get going on my current big project model train thing.
I mean I gotta learn how to use the timer / interrupts and SPI / UART,
but since I don't really know that in the first place, it's not the same
as "why doesn't this macro that works on an ATTiny85 work on this
416?!??"

Yeah, I might just send a message into the void, and see if I get a
response. Maybe.

Dan, > Thing is, while golden-boy is "higher up" than me, he's still asking > me stuff about the "realities" of what the code does, after 3(ish) > years in the position. One of /those/ :-( A number of years I heard the first-hand a story of some "wizzkid" (long ago, when DOS was still a thing) who pumped a certain aquaintence of me for batchfiles to solve his problems , and rode the "see how great I am" wave towards the management. The aquaintence got *very* tired of that, and at some point just had the wizzkids 'puter "crash", erasing most of his batchfiles. Long story short: his wave fell flat. I myself have the story of how I, in another job description, lend a helping hand to my boss in regard to fixing some computer problems . He than thought it was a good idea to try to lend me out, on my own time, to a manager-friend in some other company to do the same there. Bad move on his part. > Yeah, Ive read some of those as well, but theyre not as fun :). True. Makes me think of a friend of mine who went to a week-long computing get-together while having a 380v-to-cat-5 cable ontop of his backpack. Quite a number of the people there recognised it. And the ones who didn't where introduced to the BOFH stories. > I was only speaking to those technical gaps exhibited here. Ah yes. Mine was more geared toward his general gaps. > Was "fun" fumbling through the datasheet to learn the right C macros > to get the blinkenled working ... > it's not the same as "why doesn't this macro that works on an > ATTiny85 work on this 416?!??" Dan, > I suppose I could compile the simple blinkenled stuff, and compare > the assembly to the C, and work out what the handful of commands > I'm calling are. That would be a good idea to go about it. I take it you're talking about letting the compiler generate some human-readable assembly too. In that case be carefull about how the compiler "flavours up" its listing. If anything, see if you can disassemble from the hexfile. And if you have questions than please do post (if not here just let me know where). I do not mind at all to see if I can remember some stuff. :-) Regards, Rudy Wieser
