#38879 — When will Linux finally support double clicking?

SubjectWhen will Linux finally support double clicking?
Message-ID<9c376451-733a-4def-844f-1c1a875b8bf2@googlegroups.com>
I recently read:

  Peter Köhlmann:
    ------
So you start with a "feature" [double clicking] which is used in
OSX and windows, but *not* in linux.
    ------

When, if ever, will Linux ever support double clicking and be able to use
it in pretty much any program? Seems that is a pretty basic thing and it is hard to believe Linux is that far behind OS X and Windows.

Nonsense. Double-clicking has been a part of Linux for years.

That is what I thought. Been a while since I used it but if I recall there was a setting to make it so opening files was single or double click. Double click worked just fine elsewhere I think, such as selecting full sentences.

I suspect Peter is trolling or just stupid about Linux.

I made the mistake to think Peter might have a clue. Seems he does not. You can use double click just fine to select sentences and it is absolutely and option for opening files.

Sorry if I believed the Peter Kohlmann troll.

What is hard for me to believe is whatever you or Peter Köhlmann: are
talking about.

Having to double click to launch anything is the first thing I disable
in any of my Desktop Environments for years.

I think he was just trolling. Double click works fine for selecting sentences. Someone noted that Macs had double clicking first and Peter was trolling about how Linux does not even use double clicking. Sorry to fall for his trolling.

> Having to double click to launch anything is the first thing I disable
> in any of my Desktop Environments for years.

You can turn that on or off but even then it uses double clicking just fine for other things. I apologize for believing Peter's trolling. I should have known better. The guy is dumb enough he once told people that when you use "Quit" programs keep running.

  Peter Köhlmann:
    -----
The apps with "Quit" do *not* exit, they continue to run
    in the background
    -----

Knowing he is that stupid about Linux it was foolish of me to believe him.

Means you can set double clicking as you want, not that it does not work. Peter is an idiot.

I figured as much already, because I never saw the OP, which means that
my filters caught it and dealt with it. Besides, the obvious C.O.L.A.
idiocy factor of the very thread title suggested as much already. ;)

Not me... the ongoing and tired gag of COLA is "everyone is Snit" -- which
was never really funny but just gets stupid when brought to other groups.

It is a stupid gag from COLA that has been brought here... there the ongoing
gag is "everyone is Snit"... part of the claims that nobody agrees with me
and yet many people agree with me.

Idiotic trolling those who troll COLA are bringing here. NOT my desire.

I made the mistake of believing someone so stupid about Linux they said this:

  Peter Köhlmann:
    -----
The apps with "Quit" do *not* exit, they continue to run
    in the background
    -----

I apologize for the mistake. I should have known better.
