Positive, non-controversial, non-political, very nerdy news. Unfortunately, within hours of the spotlight being directed at Ladybird, a group of activists launched an all-out-assault on the open source web browser -- by smearing it as "Transphobic", "Mysoginistic", and (this is absolutely not a joke) suggesting that the Ladybird developers actively support and promote human slavery. Hundreds of posts repeating such smears (among others) -- with one Tech publication declaring a total boycott of Ladybird because of it. What vile deed were the developers of Ladybird guilty of, which necessitated such an intense response, you ask? Well, I'll tell you. It was exactly a year ago when I last tried Ladybird and, given the hype, was quite disappointed to find that its general page rendering ability was around equivalent to Netsurf. But compared to Netsurf it was much more buggy and incomplete, as well as much bigger and a real pain to build from source (which everyone is/was expected to do). I did look closely enough (mainly to fix build failures) to see that there was a lot of work underneath though, just not all coming together yet (or possibly completely misdirected at ticking overly specific boxes). This news might be a sign it's time to take another look. Huh. People have complained about Mozilla/Firefox being left wing. They did things like styling their posters after Soviet propaganda artwork: https://www.jwz.org/blog/2016/10/they-live-and-the-secret-history-of-the-mozilla-logo/ Seems like Ladybird might have just been trying to head off that sort of thing. But apparantly that was enough to swing their image the other way. I hope they know that nobody sane really cares about the politics of programmers who developed their open-source Web browser of choice anyway. I can understand being annoyed by such a request. I probably would have put my annoyance aside and granted it. A few harmless search and replace operations. I think people overreacted to the request. It was a small request. Ever looking to sell advertising or gain attention for other reasons the tech publication exploited this non-event to have something to publish. I also don't think the use of that pejorative in the title was called for. My opinion. No offense meant to the OP or anyone else.

This is their tactic, start small, accuse people of being bigot for not doing this "one simple thing", get in, ratchet up. The moment you cave into ONE demand, things snowball. I remember once when I was in airport security and the guy asked if he could look through my things. I told him, "oh, so I have a choice? If I have a free choice, of course the answer is no". The guy actually smiled, I saw he got it, apologized and said he had to do it anyway since it was his job. Since I was in a good mood, I refrained from saying that the Nazi prison guards were also just doing their jobs.

At the airport, security has no choice but to look through your stuff but there is absolutely no reason for them to ask you to go through an x-ray machine when they can just as easily pat you down.
