gsm is obsolete, having been replaced by hspa/umts, lte and soon 5g.

<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GSM>
  Subsequently, the 3GPP developed third-generation (3G) UMTS
  standards, followed by fourth-generation (4G) LTE Advanced
  standards, which do not form part of the ETSI GSM standard.

most lte phones don't have all lte bands, so they'll work on one
carrier but not on another, even if they're unlocked.

the real problem is that if carriers don't support it, it won't sell in
large enough volume for the company to be profitable, and that's
ignoring the rest of its problems.

Lets see, they want $600 without giving any specs of the phone. Their
FAQ contains nothing. I think I would be very sceptical.

Wow, from that site:

Might pay to factor in which side their bread is buttered on before

I bought a fliptop tracfone for less than that, but it isn't as smart or
big or touchscreen or SIM-able or wifi as my $80 phone, which I just use
w/ wifi.

That's what I paid for my smartphone. I can't understand why someone
would pay a thousand dollars for a phone that probably can't do anymore
than the one I have.
