It's pretty decent as compared to the Ubuntu "software updater" because it's non-invasive, it lets you manually decide what to update when, as opposed to a daily nag screen and a presumption of terminal stupidity like the Ubuntu thing. It's just a front-end for apt. I'm just now moving from it to apt command- line, a little at a time. For finding something to install it's pretty good in that it offers a search facility then lets you get details on that package.
