Thanks. I added three plonks just from this thread alone.

I'm old enough to remember when rational thinking was taught in
school. Nowadays that's against the PC niceness[1] concept.

Marek, I didn't see anything from that decadent troll as he's long
ago been put in my killfile. You would benefit also from plonking
him.

I never did, or will understand trolls. They can start their own
thread with their ideas, and that would make sense and it would be
courteous to everyone.

But, they, instead, attempt to destroy everyone else's threads.
And, as you noted, they spend an inordinate amount of time on the
very ng that they profess to despise the topic of.

Makes no sense. But, let's not feed 'em please.

Marek, I saw your other comment about cross posting and didn't understand
what the problem was, so I didn't respond to it, after having considered
asking you what the problem is.

Here you've explained the problem is that the two worlds don't mesh, but,
that's exactly what I'm trying to do.

I'm trying to *push* (i.e., upload) from Android to Linux, any way I can
that makes sense.

That probably means I need to do stuff on Android, and then that I need
to do stuff on Linux (which all the responses to date have been telling
me).

So, I fundamentally don't understand why you're so against cross posting,
because, without Android users, I'm just talking to Linux users, who may
know nothing about Android.

Since I know you to be a logical person (I've used your scripts, for
example), and a good guy (you write and provide them for free), I guess
what you're implying is that the Linux people *know* Android.

Is that what you're implying?

And, by the corollary to that assumption, that the Android people, as a
class, do *not* know Linux. Is that what you're also implying?

If that's truly the case, that the Android people wouldn't have a clue
how to interface Android to Linux, then what you say makes sense.

But, it's not my initial assumption because this is an interface issue,
so, I would initially have assumed that the Android users who know linux
would respond, in addition to any linux user who knew android.

Please.... You're troll posting. Any Linux user can do what you're
asking in their sleep. And I frankly find it unbelievable that you can't
so much as use an FTP app. You know how long it took me to do what
you're saying? About 3 seconds. It's beyond stupid easy.

Why would the average Android user know anything about Linux? Why would
the average iOS user, Windows user or OSX user know anything about
Linux?

You're trolling. You're playing stupid. No one is this freaking dumb. No
one. You know enough to install and use Linux, yet you have never, in
your life, used FTP? I find that hard to believe.

You sound like a troll. Like some stupid TV ad where the dumb lady can't
use a blender and makes a mess fumbling around like a moron until the
product they want to sell shows up. Then suddenly she's a master chef.
That's the kind of crap you're pulling here. Seriously, get lost.

Marek, do you realize what you just said? Do you?

Let me put it bluntly, but I do not wish to hurt your feelings.

Here's a two sentence summary, personalized:

QUESTION FROM WILL:
How do you get bluetooth on Android to select multiple files when
transferring files to Linux (I can only manually select multiple files)?

ANSWER FROM MAREK:
This is a Linux question and not an Android question so stop asking
Android users this question - only ask Linux users! You need to set up an
FTP server on Linux even though what you're asking is a bluetooth
question on Android.

I hope that didn't hurt your feelings, but, your suggestion that I'm a
troll for asking an Android question of Android users, and then
suggesting that only and FTP server can solve a bluetooth GUI problem is
patently ridiculous (it makes *you* look more like a troll than me, but,
I know you are *not* a troll - I just don't get why you don't understand
the original question yet you consistently attack me for asking it).

Again, I'm not here to argue. I'm just trying to move forward on the
problem.

Remember, I have absolutely no problem transferring files with bluetooth
from Android to Linux. The files transfer perfectly. The *only* problem I
have is *selecting* multiple files in one fell swoop on Android.

That you insist this has nothing to do with Android, and worse, that I'm
a troll for even thinking of asking Android users how Android works, is
what bothers me a bit. But, we're all getting too hot and heavy over what
is really a simple question.

THESE ARE FACTS:
To date, nobody has even remotely answered the original question.
Three viable solutions and two untenable solutions were suggested to date.
The most viable of the suggested solutions doesn't answer the original
question, but probably solves the original problem, which is how to
transfer MULTIPLE files in a single selection process.

Maybe because *you* are the one cross-posting, and *you* are the one
going around calling folks "troll".

Doesn't feel very good, does it?

Unfortunately you don't. It's a shortcoming of the android interface.
Now, a more recent version *MAY* allow you do select an entire folder
(or perhaps an app from the Play store).

That said, bluetooth is comparitively slow (~25 Mbit for Bluetooth
3.0/4.0; I have no idea what revision the GS3 nor your laptop have) as
compared to something like 802.11n -- although the assumption is that
both your laptop and GS3 support 802.11n (802.11g is comparable to
Bluetooth 3.0/4.0).

Well, I hope my answer above takes care of that.

And as an aside to the other things - Marek (et. al.), while being a bit
gruff in the responses about why you're posting in the wrong place are
accurate. Just take a look at some of the answers the "not linux" crews
post when someone cross-posts -- it essentially boils down to "you're a
shithead for wanting to do anyting other than suck on Steve Jobs'
(gosresthissoul) cock" (replace with similar for MSFT crews).

I've had one or two discussions with some of the regulars here, and
they're generally decent guys in those email exchanges -- even when
discussing the shortcomings of Linux.

Leads me to believe (as I think you do), that these posters are
typically decent people; but get tired of all the trash related to
others coming in with merely the agenda of "your chosen OS is a piece of
rubbish, see if you spend gobs of money you could have a walled garden
like I have!"

Dan, I was able to finally get it to work this morning.
I was so frustrated with the Turbo Client, that I went *back* to the
bluetooth.

Then, I went back to Turbo Client and got it to work.

So, now I have *both* solutions working.

The trick in the bluetooth setup is that the selection of the folder
comes at a time where there is no GUI whatsoever. You just have to *know*
what to long press at just the right time. Long pressing it in any other
mode (i.e., not in "album" mode for example) will fail.

Anyway, thanks to your help and others, both solutions are working now.
I will simply respond to legitimate posts from here on in, as a courtesy
to the poster in accordance with good Usenet practice.

Thanks!

Thanks Dan, I do see that bluetooth seemed much slower than WiFI
(buttmeter assessment) even given the router in the middle.

I like the suggested Turbo Client, so, I'm using that now, even though I
have also solved the bluetooth-folder-selection problem.

Dan, I agree with you as I lurk on many groups.

I don't know what sent Marek over the deep end, with Cybe being his +1
sidekick, but they're generally good guys who even go to the trouble to
help each other, and to write scripts for people (Marek writes entire
scripts, Cybe writes pseudo code - both of which are helpful.)

I must agree with you, that I unknowingly fell into Marek's web of
mistrust when I asked the Android:Linux question of Android and Linux
users.

You must note however, that I never once trashed *either* system!
I have no agenda there. They're all good. I have Windows, Linux, my wife
has a Mac and iPhone, and I'm on Android. They're all good in different
ways.

So, while the trolls *did* trash the system (e.g., the guy who added the
comp.linux.advocacy group), you'll note that I killfiled them immediately
and stayed on topic and answered all legitimate concerns.

I think he's saying that Marek will write code one can take and run,
your code examples are "fake" -- like this:

if ($some_file exists) then

Hmm, that's truly interesting as I don't code, never have coded and have
never even attempted to write even fake code. I have upon the odd

I DLd and burned all seven debian 20 live DVD discs yesterday and am
booting each one to see what the different desktops are like. I also
DLd all three install DVDs. Maybe I will say goodbye to Ubuntu.
