Cybe.

Do you realize that Marek himself told me that the kook wasn't a troll,
so, I removed him from my killfile on the advice of Marek?

Then, when I do, the kook posts a kooky unrelated wholly off topic and
senseless post.

Yet, Marek blasts me, of all people, for asking a question, finding the
answer, testing all viable suggested solutions, and posting the results?

Worse, you then +1 everything Marek says?

I know you to be smart, albeit a bit of a curmudgeon, yet, in this
thread, both of you just show up as kooks, sorry to say.

I'm sorry if being blunt hurts your feelings, but all that I say is
backed up by facts in this thread.

I am not a kook either, you retarded piece of shit.

Your retarded mother should be in prison for failing to flush the

You missed the part about *you* saying he's *not* a troll so I removed
him from the killfile.

Again, I know you to be an intelligent person, so I must question *why*
you persist in such childish attacks?

I didn't attack you. I simply asked a question.
That you apparently don't *like* the question is clear.

That you apparently *hate* interface issues between Android & Linux being
asked of both groups is amply clear.

But what is not at all clear is why, all of a sudden, you're such a lousy
Usenet citizen, for no good reason.

Are you not used to people who (a) ask, (b) respond, and (c) follow up
with the tested solution (in a step-by-step repeatable procedure)?

Are you *that* jaded that you are blinded by facts?

I told you. You're cross posting. Cut it out. How can I be more clear to
you? Stop cross posting. Your Android bull is NOT welcome here. You want
to ask us a question, then as "Just Us". We don't you people pouring in
here with this non-sense.

I've had people ask me a question and I might spend a day, two days,
even a week or more writing them up a solution. If it is real and
interesting you might see a major part of this group get behind it. I am
not against (a) ask, (b) respond (c) follow up. I am against what you're
doing and I said so right off the bat yet you continue to do it. Maybe
you're not reading what I wrote.

That's troll crap. I gave you an app that works. You decline to use what
I tell you works well.

That's it. You're an idiot.
I'm done with you.
You're a fool besides, because you have absolutely no idea *what* a
crosspost is.

If you sent a message to newsgroups x,y, and, z, and then I hit "f" to
reply to YOUR message, it would go to x, y, and z!. I change nothing!

If you send a message to newsgroup x, and then I hit "f" to reply to YOUR
message, it just goes to "x".

I don't *change* the newsgroup line one bit (except in the case of one
other idiot who has a space in his crosspost for some idiotic reason).

I'm no genius, and I *had* thought that you weren't a child, but, at 47
you are acting like somewhere between 4 and 7 if you don't even know what
YOUR own posts have in their header lines.

End result: You are either a troll, or an idiot, or both, (or maybe one
took over your account?). You are now officially killfiled, because I
can't handle an idiot dumber than my four-year old grandchild!

Here are the simple headers for your first post in this thread:
From: Will Dockery <will.dockery@gmail.com>
Newsgroups: comp.mobile.android,alt.os.linux.ubuntu

Can you see that /YOU/ crossposted that post and that, since you did,
some replies to it are also crossposted? Those which are not are
examples of /OTHER PEOPLE/ removing one or more groups from /YOUR/
crossposted thread.

In the end it is /you/ who started the crossposted thread, therefore it
is up to /you/ to fix your own f-up. Do it in each of your replies.

Okay this is pure idiocy! Apparently is it you that has no idea what
*crossposting* is.

Crossposting is posting to more than one newsgroup with the same
message, i.e., having more more than one newsgroup listed in the *To:*
field. This is the a portion of the header of your original post:

Path:
eternal-september.org!mx02.eternal-september.org!feeder.eternal-september.org!feeder.erje.net!us.feeder.erje.net!usenet.blueworldhosting.com!feeder01.blueworldhosting.com!nntpswitch.blueworldhosting.com!not-for-mail
From: Will Dockery <will.dockery@gmail.com>
Subject: Is there a select all button in Android for bluetooth file xfer?
Newsgroups: comp.mobile.android,alt.os.linux.ubuntu
             ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
That is *crossposting*.

Now typically *crossposting* is preferred over *multiposting*:
broadcasting separate identical posts to different groups. However,
*crossposting* is a problem when a crossposted post includes a group
that is not relevant to the subject.

It might be debatable whether or not your crossposting here is a
problem. Your topic does involve both Linux and Android, but where the
grievance is that most of your questions/complaints/criticisms involve
*Android* apps which is not relevant to *Linux*. We can give you a Linux
solution, but you do not seem receptive to it.

It is okay to crosspost a question to both newgroups if the question
involves both, but if your focus turns towards one group over the other,
in your case an Android solution, then the proper thing to do is when
you reply is to set your follow up to that group and trim out the
irrelevant group. Or more directly since you only want an *Android*
solution, trim out "os.linux.ubuntu" please.

I hope that explains things.

Every reply I have made is only to the ubuntu group. I'm using slrn and
I keep restricting it. In fact I would have to force it to cross post.
I'm assuming if you reply to me, since I am only posting to one group,
your client, if replying to me, should be my single group. But who
knows, I'm just a fool.

> If you sent a message to newsgroups x,y, and, z, and then I hit "f" to
> reply to YOUR message, it would go to x, y, and z!. I change nothing!

No, I don't set my messages that way. Maybe you are confusing me with
someone else. Pretty darn sure every post I have made on this thread has
been to one group. If others can see this differently, feel free to
chime in.

> If you send a message to newsgroup x, and then I hit "f" to reply to YOUR
> message, it just goes to "x".

I agree. So is that what's actually happening? Look at the header for my
posts. None of them should be crossed to other groups. Hit followup and
see what happens.

> I don't *change* the newsgroup line one bit (except in the case of one
> other idiot who has a space in his crosspost for some idiotic reason).

You started the original thread. You started the cross post. So everyone
in your android group who doesn't remove it is now showing up in the
Ubuntu group. Each time one of them decides to chime in from one of
those posts, we're all going to get it now.

> I'm no genius, and I *had* thought that you weren't a child, but, at 47

:) Buddy, I think you're making a big mistake. But again, if someone
else can confirm what you're saying I welcome it. As far as I know, my
posts are only to the Ubuntu group. Feel free to point one out to me
from this thread where it is otherwise.

So you don't dealing with idiots? Think about that for sec. It's kind of
funny. :)

Or just buy another one. What is this, a Galaxy SII? I see one on ebay
for $85. They sell brand new Android phones for dirt cheap.

My phone is broken, I need to use Bluetooth with Linux to sync my
photos. Who makes this crap up?

Use SFTP, here's how.

139 line post later... I'm too stupid to make that work. Whaa!

Do you see the pattern here? This is classic trolling 101. Like when
these guys come up with some obscure non-sense and use it like a club
for the rest of their lives. See the stupid Blu-ray posts? And the
Premiere Pro posts. A Niche of a niche of niche and they cling to it
like life itself.

Next you see them saying crap like, look at this long thread where all
these gurus couldn't help me copy a photo to my phone. Whaa!

How many people got into Linux to watch Blu-rays on their desktop? Oh
that's right, none. How many legit Linux users have used FTP? All of
them. Smart enough to know what Usenet is. Smart enough to know how to
cross post. Too dumb to type in the name and IP address into an FTP
client. Yeah, right...

Tell me then, Cybe, what is wrong with:

1. Asking a specific question.
2. Getting other answers, unrelated, but which solve the problem.
3. Trying out *all* the viable ones
4. Reporting trouble with the unpolished suggestions

10. Saying the suggested approach is better than the original approach.
11. Answering why the other approaches were not viable (e.g., dropbox).
12. And, courteously responding to you here now.

Are you so used to people that don't ask, respond, and close the loop to

1. Nothing necessarily wrong here. As I recall it, your situation is:
 - USB not possible
 - Bluetooth UI is awful for multiple file selection
 - Is there a better way to do what I want to?

2. Well, this is not entirely honest --> the UI for bluetooth transfers
is (as you're well aware) awful, and requires individual file selection
via checkmarks. So, when everyone was telling you to use (S)FTP to
solve the problem, they were spot on with the third point noted in point
1 immediately above.

3. Nothing ;)

4. Reporting trouble to a linux group for unpolished / unfinished
android apps isn't really gonna help much. Kind of the same idea behind
not asking your auto mechanic about that new router you want to buy.

5. Nothing ;) -- though some posts did lose their courtesy (but this is
true of all parties).

6. Nothing ;)

7. Nothing :) -- though as with number 5, some of the "thanks" posts
took a turn somewhere along the way. Generally this was due to you
talking about shortcomings of the android apps as if the linux group has
something to do with it.

8. Nothing.

9. Nothing.

10. Nothing -- though again, these posts did kinda stray into "nice as
these solutions are, they're not answering the question I had about
bluetooth" territory.

11. Nothing. Though the way you write about them, you might have the
tinfoil on a little too tightly. ;)

TBH, I think most of the friction came out of you kinda being on both
sides of the fence --> one side, you're a pretty competent-souding
person, and on the other you needed what looked like some serious
hand-holding to even get a basic connection to an already existing SFTP
server ...

thought I was doing everything right, but, you found where the friction
lay.

I didn't see their side of the story, and clearly (oh so clearly), they
didn't see mine.

I'm sorry if any posts took a turn for the worst. I *thought* the only
nasty ones were when I was exasperated by the contrived "agenda" of some
of the posters; but you show where I, myself, may have gone astray.

Thanks for pointing that out for me.

That's a nice way of saying it. True, I discarded the Google suggestion
the moment it asked for all my contacts and phone calls (for a photo app?
).

And, I deprecate the cloud solutions (for transferring a file 3 inches?).

And, I am leery of adding yet another server (yet, I seem to have SSH
installed, unbeknownst to me - but it probably came with openvpn perhaps).

I understand what you're saying.

Initially, that Turbo Client was horrid. Now I like it, but, you have to
know *exactly* what to press and what not to press.

In hindsight, I'd never suggest that app to a newbie, simply because you
make one slight button press error and you lose everything. However, once
you have the steps figured out, it's trivially easy to transfer files
quickly, so, I know *like* that app.

It's just a learned taste!

Thanks for edifying me. I original thought I was guiltless, but, you
showed me that I'm partly culpable myself, for the incorrect assumptions
Marek and Cybe are making.

Thanks.

Marek,
I would normally call you an idiot for saying such tripe, but I already
know you to be an *intelligent* person who does good by writing scripts.

You are one of the few who make Usenet still very useful.

You will note that "I" for my part, also make Usenet still useful as I
a. Asked a complete question.
b. Followed all (viable) advice.
c. Ignored bad advice (unless, as you did, you asked why).
d. Responded courteously to all legitimate posts.
e. Killfiled those who were trolling (without feeding them).
f. Provided the *answer* to the original question, and,
g. Wrote a step-by-step tutorial for the most successful suggestion.

I, for one, *know* you have *never* touched "turbo client", as you,
yourself, would find it horrid and uninviting, so, your claim that you
would have it done in short order is patently unbelievable.

Yes, you're intelligent. Yes, you know FTP. You probably even know why
there are ten (yes, count them, ten) DCIM directories shown in Turbo
Client (all of which are shown multiple ways with arbitrary casing, so
that makes about 20 unique DCIM directories).

You clearly have *never* used the tool; otherwise you'd have a far
different opinion. (Am I right? Don't lie. You never used Turbu Client!).

Anyway, you have been extremely discourteous, rude, and unhelpful this
time. That's unbecoming of you, and I *know* you to be better than that.

I, for one, will continue to respond to legitimate posts as I am a
courteous and helpful Usenet user. You're so used to people who aren't,
that you think *anyone* who is responsive is, in your words, a troll.

Sorry to have to tell it to you straight.
I hope I didn't hurt your feelings by telling you the truth.

It makes sense, when you don't think about it.

And even better ones from elsewhere.

  Definitely worth taking the chance.
