#177481 — Samba? What a freaking joke

SubjectSamba? What a freaking joke
Message-ID<MPG.300a1fe4d74896f99896e8@news.eternal-september.org>

There is a reason they call it "Samba" and that reason is
you will be dancing around in circles trying to make it
work.

Windows: Plug computers in, select share, done.
Linux: Edit smb.conf, try it, doesn't work, edit again,
try it doesn't work, Google, doesn't work, etc.

Of course the Linux freaks will tell you this all just
works but use your head, why so many hits in Google if it
just works.

Linux freaks lie.
They lie a lot in fact.

Typical Linux freak.
So are all those on the net who can't make it work idiots as well?

Or, y'know you could use NFS.

SMB (especially when playing with a windows server) is painful. But then
again, it's also painful with Windows ...

Of course it's painful.
Point is Windows to Windows is trivial.
Linux to Linux is trivial.
Mix the two and it's a mess.

A little fact that the Linux community lies about.

Your problem is that you think that it is Linux to blame for it.

500 file systems out there, all open and accessible.

Windblows "comes up with" NTFS and makes it particulars unavailable,
and access to it unmanageable and you want to blame the entire rest of
the industry for their stupidity.

Well, pal, the stupidity just got proxied by them (MS), to you (Tomas
the retard), because you are the wholly uninformed liar and the utter
retard in this discussion.

Well that's part of his problem.
"Tomas" Flatfish, the "40tude.net" troll, doesn't think.

I'm not exactly a fan of the lowercase mechanic, but in this case,
"Tomas" is one of the many, many, many [*] pseudonyms of flatfish+++,
who is well-known in comp.os.linux.advocacy and who regularly decides to
troll other GNU/Linux newsgroups. He has a very distinct and
recognizable writing style, and he's quite obviously US American.

Lowercase mechanic is British. They are not the same person.

[*] Did I mention "many"?

But, of course, it wasn't lower mechanic to whom I referred, but a
USian. Check more headers. It might be that there aren't that many,
but regularity is the norm over years.

Pretty sure it's mainly a symptom of our (USian here) current state of
education -- the whole point is creating non-thinking automatons who
believe the tripe that the talking heads at Fox News / MSNBC / CNN tell
them to believe.

And sorry for contributing to the decline of the average intellectual
level ;)

Do you (or, well anyone really) have any suggestions on resources
(books / web tutorials / etc.) that I can use in attempts at bettering
myself with "Linux in general"?

On the upside, I've converted my SO (more or less) to breaking the MSFT
shackles on her laptop, and embracing Linux. Other than "I'm not a fan
of Firefox, can I use chrome" (and a few similar "I don't like A, is
there a B" questions -- which, as with most things Linux, the answer is
"well, you can have B,C,...,Z,AA,AB,AC..."), she hasn't been missing
Windows.

You wouldn't believe how much I agree with that. In fact, I've been
having a heated discussion with someone like that only a few days ago.
The guy's a Zionist and an American Exceptionalist, and he was
repeatedly being apologetic for the Israeli genocide against the
Palestinians in Gaza.

*You* haven't. ;) But there are others here ─ and in other GNU/Linux-
related newsgroups ─ who definitely are. And there's at least one paid
shill in this newsgroup (and in alt.os.linux.mint).

Well, there's always the RUTE [1], by Paul Sheer, but it's already a bit
outdated. I also always recommend reading the UNIX FHS [2] so as to get
a grip on what partitions you may want and what the rationale is behind
them.

I've also managed to recently convert a few people who were scared of
the EOL of Windows XP and were looking for a decent and secure
alternative. I've pointed them at Mint and at creating a bootable USB
stick with unetbootin, and they're happy campers now. ;)

Look, if you fire your missiles from a place where innocents might get
hurt, they WILL get hurt because the missile launch site WILL get
destroyed.

This crap "you killed our children" needs to cease. Stop hiding among
innocents when you're firing your missiles into our innocents, you
retarded bastards, and we'll stop tracking you and killing you. The
pussies hide among those they claim we kill, yet everyone wants to turn
a blind eye to the target of their randomly fired bullshit rockets they
get from IRAN.

They are fucking lucky Israel is being nice about it... ALL THESE
YEARS. And there is no "stop and we'll stop". They bury their little
launchers and come dig them up and fire their rockets and run like
little pussies. The goddamned cowards should ALL die as well as the
source of their hardware.
