I had a similar problem when fvwm95 disappeared from slackware, leaving
fvwm2 which I didn't like so much. Then I found some startup stuff for
fvwm2 that makes it look almost exactly like fvwm95, and it was exactly
what I wanted. Sorry, I don't recall the web url where I found it, but
I uploaded a copy to http://www.forkosh.com/fvwmtwo.zip
   Download that, mkdir ~/.fvwm and then unzip fvwmtwo.zip into ~/.fvwm
Now just ln -s xinitrc.fvwm2 xinitrc in /etc/X11/xinit/ and startx.
If you liked fvwm95, I bet you'll love this! The "Root Menu" (left-click
mouse) has an entry for Xsane that I added. Look at menus to see how
that's done. (P.S. Didn't read this entire thread -- sorry if someone
else already suggested this.)
