I came across yhis gimp plugin while searching for scanning software.
It is not in the repo and I wonder if it is actually still maintained.

Any info anyone?

It doesn't seem so.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/quiteinsane/

It is based on old Qt versions.

Well, I wanted to try it but ran into dependency hell.

After locating and installing several packages I got stuck with:

Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 2.2.2) (headers and libraries) not found.

Any suggestions?

TIA

Use some other sane frontend; that one is too far gone.

The 'oldest'/current Qt which is practical is TQt for TDE.

Here's a number of sane frontends:

I installed gscan2pdf and found it OK but too slow for batches of 25 or
more pages at a time. looks like I will have to hang on to XP for a bit
longer.

Thank you all who offered advice.

Keep the pressure on.

You'll come up with something.

You have the Fujitsu SANE working for you.
That counts for a lot. The rest is just
graphical whipped cream.

"QuiteInsane - Graphical frontend based on Qt 2.2.x (discontinued since 2004) "

It's a plugin for GIMP, and needs to link against GTK2.

There's an example of source for it, on Sourceforge.

https://master.dl.sourceforge.net/project/quiteinsane/OldFiles/quiteinsanegimpplugin-0.3.tar.gz?viasf=1

An archeology project. Bring your own shovel. Also uses QT3, early version.

Maybe "simple-scan" would work instead ?

Now look at the libraries in package manager on your
current day distro. They would be for Qt5, not Qt2
or Qt3, which are the build requirements.

You are likely to trip on GTK as well. The current GTK
might be GTK3, whereas the GIMP of the day was built
against GTK2.

I think you could do this. It's just going to be
some amount of work, to track down candidate -dev things
for this.

The biggest risk factor in your build, isn't Gt5 or GTK3,
it's going to be some hardware-related subsystem that's
changed, like a DBUS or whatever. Some namespace thing.
Things that may not necessarily be checked carefully
by configure. You might get to runtime with your static
build and discover an issue.

On the positive side of the ledger, I haven't seen the
word Python in there yet, so the thing might actually work :-)
I've had a few little build projects scuttled by Python
version mismatches (one part of build using a different
version than some other component in the build).

What scanner are you trying to accommodate?
