#9523 — Have you guys seen the new video from Google?

You guys need to watch this.  It's essentially virtual apps in the
cloud for your phone.  It's like a virtual remote desktop, but just for
an app or a small portion of an app on your phone.  You don't need to
install anything to run the app.  You just need to be able to connect
to it via a link, e.g., to do your banking, pay for restaurant bills
from your smartphone in real time, get news, email, etc.  This could be
the ultimate in cloud computing, at least for smartphones.

It looks good. I hadn't seen it. I like the analogy of just being able 
to invoke an app as we would invoke a web page.

One query I have though is about logging in and providing credentials. 
Some apps would require that. I wonder what they have done to make it 
both secure and convenient.

I don't know.  They might have an integrated password manager and/or
digital wallet or link to web payment APIs such as by PayPal or Stripe.
Or, it might be on a per app basis, e.g., enter your credit card number
instead of going through PayPal. My first impression though is that
this could really make websites and financial transactions much easier
to use by providing abstracted processing power and seamless
integration of apps and databases, such as for online grocery stores.
It's been a long time since something has really impressed me.  I
haven't really been impressed by much since I was first introduced to
computers.  Even virtual reality hasn't shocked me or blown me away.
So, as usual, time will tell.  If it's a game changer or world beater
or embraced by businesses we'll know real soon, I think.
