If there is a "reset settings to factory defaults" option or something similar option in your BIOS, select that, then save the BIOS settings. Try DEL (delete) key during bootup to enter BIOS, not to be confused with BS (backspace). >> The next thing I'd do, if the machine is over 5 years old, [...] > > Oh yeah it's over 5 yo. About 11-12. I'd definately consider replacing any heatsink grease, especially if you or someone else built or assembled it, i.e., if it's not heatsink grease from a factory. The problem is that most heatsink grease is of poor quality. It eventually "dries" out from heat exposure. It becomes flaky like face powder for women. That's not what a thermally conductive grease should do. In general, I haven't had problems with factory pre-greased heatsinks, but I did have one from the factory that dried out. I'd only do this after eliminating some other options, since it's messy and can be risky if static electricity is around or you're not grounded or if you don't take care re-inserting the processor correctly, etc. Rod Pemberton -- The idea that sentient beings can be suppressed by a few simple rules is a farce. Even so, Isaac Asimov posited such rules for sentient artificial intelligence.
