It's not a gun problem, it's a behavior problem propagated by TV, social media, games, and those in the immediate social structure. They ALL promote the misuse of guns as minor problem solvers. THAT's where the problem is. ST. LOUIS — Gun violence advocates are calling for change after 7-month-old Kiyomi Parker was shot and killed on Friday afternoon inside a home on North Broadway. During a preliminary investigation, detectives found out that a 10-year-old boy was responsible for shooting the baby girl. He was taken into custody, and the Juvenile Courts charged him with first-degree murder, police announced Saturday. A 19-year-old man was also arrested after questioning and will be facing gun charges. "This is such a sad and unfortunate incident to happen to a baby that didn't even really begin to live life," gun advocate Precious Jones said. Jones' son died from gun violence a few years back. She is now fighting to save others from the same fate. "This is two lives now changed forever," said Jones, referencing the 10- and 19-year-olds. "These types of incidents can be prevented." Gun locks are available for free at various locations across St. Louis, and all St. Louis Public Library branches carry them. "The library is not the first place you think of to get a gun lock, but they are available for free here if you need them," Librarian Amy Brown said. It's easier than ever to get a gun lock, Brown said. "Just walk up to any circulation desk and ask for a gun lock," said Brown. There are other ways to get a gun lock, too. "You can go to any Phillips 66 or Crown Market and ask for a gun lock," Jones said. This shooting is still under investigation, but 5 On Your Side will keep you updated once we hear more details from police surrounding what led up to the shooting. "No one should be able to purchase a firearm without purchasing the equipment that comes with it.
