Lithium is the 25th most abundant element on Earth and so its never
going to run out if you are making electric cars with it.

So build a car with it, you don't need a huge chunk of metal which is
the engine block and its enormous suspension to be lugged around
with an electric car. They weigh hundreds of kilograms and
so electric cars out perform all petrol cars.

But another little known fact is that if anything the size of
a vehicle is half battery, then its range is over 1000 miles.
No more range anxiety!

With Tesla 3, then range is already 300 milles - so need to charge
for entire week of commute!

So why are we making stupidly small Lithium cells for
stupidly powerful 1000 mile cars?

Its not the price or abundance Lithium - only about 3% is used in
a battery any way.

The problem is small mindedness from CEOs to pooliticians.

A Lithium battery is just like a roll of film. And just like a
roll of film, it can be scaled to metre size. The power of the
battery just goes off the scale if your factory switches
to making 1 metre size Lithium cells. It costs much more to
spool 5cm reels and then join up thousands of cells than
it does just to spool up a big battery and selling those
for electric cars at $50 per kwh.
What you should be doing is also investing in technologies that
help identify hot spots inside the battery to prevent
charging if it is damaged to go with these big batteries.

So forget 5cm batteries. They are for granddads.

Work on 1 metre size Lithium cells and get to grips with
real batteries. As a standardized global product,
they are needed for everything from
lorries to ships to trains, planes and electric cars in huge quantities.
The demand will never run out.

China should be taking the lead, and if they don't want it,
give it to the brits - they already working on Sodium ion
instead of Lithium ion battery - so scaling up the sodium battery
is just as good.
