I am sure that family can outdo the Kardashians for being famous, so they should have a solid career in the US, if they are ousted from every 17(?) countries they are head of state in. They always had the best of both worlds with the UK and the open border. Now that may come to an end. Ireland remains solidly committed to the EU, and has gotten over the financial crises, finally. It took a decade, almost, and there are lots of scars still. The main obstacles to being Irish are the catholic majority in the Irish legislature. This is what it always boils down to. So, why not a looser union, with a federal state; where there are two legislatures, and a unicameral one for defence and government? plus the budgets for those, but two separate ones for all civil legislation and the budgets for all social etc services? This is not assimilation. Such a solution has been proposed before, but the Ulster unionists have always preferred the "same" union with the UK. >> Time to reform the iso3166 again soon. People on Wall Street make money by scaring everyone into doing something and then doing the opposite themselves - he days they're buying UK index funds while everyone else was panicked into selling. One of the main reasons for companies failing is managerial
incompetence. A management that decides to punish its customers (and
suppliers) for non-business reasons is super incompetent. Only total
monopolies can hope to get away with such silly behaviour. This is a
major opportunity for rival companies.
The USA and China produce and consume similar goods and services to
continental firms. Send businessmen.

Uh, I hate to break this to you, but if the United States unilaterally disarmed, while Russia and China retained their nuclear weapons, Canada, Mexico, the countries of Western Europe, and pretty much every other country on Earth would pretty much be in the position of obeying whatever orders came from Moscow and/or Beijing in preference to getting nuked off the face of the Earth. Why? The British, French, Indians, Pakistanis, and Isrealis would still have theirs, and the Japanese would as soon as they could get the key in the lock.

This is why France is the third biggest nuclear weapon country. They (just barely, but still) have a global MAD strategy of their own. (If you ask people, they all answer China for the third place. They are not. They are about even with Britain, somewhat more nukes but not quite as powerful). Britain, China and Israel have limited MAD capabilities, one that could wipe out a continent or two. The others (Pakistan, India, North Korea) are just in the "advanced bombing" class. You would need around 300 nukes to get to a global MAD, as well as a dozen ships or subs. A regional one takes around 50. So, the US and Russia could still reduce their arsenals by about 3/4rs and still be able to outdo all the others. So, you still have to contend with France and Britain if you want to conquer the western world. -- mrr

Both your neighbours have invaded. Canada (well, then the British Empire, North America section) invaded during the war of 1812, and Pancho Villa led a Mexican invationary force in March 1916. Interestingly, they'd enlist someone, give him a couple weeks of drill, and get ready to send him off to fight. -- Pete
