Probably about half of text Usenet is using languages different than English. Mostly Italian, French, and German. That's why people use MIME.

Considering David has this header: User-Agent: nn/6.7.3. Looks like that was released in 2006 but AFAIK has no mime support so it'll show all the quoted-printable and base64 stuff as is without trying to decode it. I remember nn, it was great in the university back in the 90s as it did its own article database so it was way faster than clients connected to the overloaded NNTP server. Sysadmins hated on it though since it needed some administration.

But people seem to be way too fond of them, often using them when simple text and maybe a few screenshots/other images would do just fine. I don't want to have to devote my full attention to a video for many minutes if the latter is the case.
