It sounds like Morrisons is in the dark ages. Why sould the checkouts "have to key a price off a sticker"? Scan the code, the computer gives the price. This is the kind of thing that computers _do_. In the US prices are not marked on individual containers, they are marked on the shelf adjacent to the containers.

I would add that there are exceptions in the case of deli and butcher items where there is a barcode identifying the item and price and weight marked. I'm not clear on what they do there, presumably that's proprietary to the store.

That's another place where proprietary barcodes can be used to signal the product and the specific price of THAT lump of meat/fish/other based on the weight and price-per-kg in force, so when taken to the checkout it can be swiped. The expired stuff I buy most often is cheese, for which the expiration date is about the earliest it's worth eating. (I am aware there is a specific law about baby formula. Yeah, it's not really worth it. At least on this particular issue; if
I'm going to comment on politics here I'll stick to other issues.
Our politicians, secure in the belief that nothing bad could ever happen
with the USSR gone, tore down most of our strategic reserves 15-20 years
ago. Meds, food, fuel, you name it. And I'm pretty sure that both
pandemics and biological warfare had been considered, so there would
have been protective equipment for health care workers in there.
That stuff would have been really nice to have in the current pandemic.
I believe the PPE situation is more or less under control now, but there
were quite a few workers forced to work with inadequate protection,
exposing themselves to unnecessary risk.

So, you're saying it's impossible to change things to make them better. How Reagan-esque. I can't remember when the congress actually wrote and passed a budget. Continuing Resolutions don't count. A "budget" you know is not binding on anybody. It's just a statement that "this is what we're going to tell you we're spending while we actually steal you blind".
