That's not futures, that's seasonality.    My orange crop has been
consumed,[*] and I won't get another crop until december.  So, I must get
oranges from elsewhere.

No.  This was in the same month.  We couldn't figure out why.

One of the few pluses of moving is that I have a mulberry tree in my
back yard, so I can relive my childhood.

No.   Squirrels sometimes will eat the windfall.  Right now the
tree is in bloom and the fragrance is outstanding.

They are and robins shit blue/purple on everything after eating
the berries.  They taste good; I like the ones that aren't quite
ripe.

ISTR that the "choke" needed a counter to defuse the effect.
Could we be talking about two different things?  I haven't
thought of this stuff since I was a kid.

Mainly honeybees, but yes, the hummers do enjoy the tree as well.

I was admiring all the lemon trees in Phoenix.  Daughter ruined that by
saying "roof rats really love to eat the lemons."

One might find the thought of eating rat distasteful but I understand

Looking at the TV one night, there were pictures of people being
forced to eat  rats. Man up the counter, who had served in 
Nigeria, laughed. "They always eat rats out there". They eat 
insects in Thailand

Yes rat is still eaten and is popular in Nigeria. They are even
farmed now.

However they are not like the common brown rats we are used to.
They are Greater Cane Rats, they only eat vegetation, and do
not live down sewers or in filth.

Similarly in Cambodia and Vietnam rice-field rat is sometimes
eaten.
