I remember the early 1950s, a lot of Irish people had gone to the UK, 
where jobs were, the food was still crap over there. I remember the 
visitors coming back, pale faces, thinnish, ravenous for good eggs and
butter, and `real' potatoes.

	It is noticable that those under 30 can often consume vast
quantities of sugars and fats with no apparent ill effects until they wind
up in their 40s with a long list of medical issues.

Common misconception resulting from the erroneous assumption that age at 
death follows a normal curve.  In point of fact people in the distant 
past who survived to adulthood usually lived on to a fairly ripe old 
age.  Most of the deaths before 35 were infant and childhood mortality  
and eating fat had little to do with it.

Also, skeletons from the prehistoric hunter-gatherer peoples show lots
of scars and events of starvation. The typical wound are not mainly
violence; rather it is from accidents; and the starvation may have been
severe, but rather short over a lifespan. 

Thank $DEITY for modern medicine, without which I would have been
dead 20 years this winter.

lucky to have rat on a stick, much less the fattest mastodon. Yeah, 
they liked fat, if you're calorie starved fat tastes very good. If you 
don't get much to eat, saturated fat isn't likely to be a problem.

Archaeolgists have discovered that some hunter-gatherers ate better than
farming cultures that came later.  Not much work and a pretty well-balanced
diet.

Some Inuit sociologists have made a movie about the white people, 
using sociology and etnographic tools. Quallunat. It is jaw-dropping
to have this "outside-looking-in" view. One thing that struck me
is the view of our taboos. One of which is that food has to taste
good. Seal blubber does not taste good.

Except for elementary school, I ignored the food pyramid. I've seen
alterations to the pyramid when they were successful. Mostly dairy and
beef producers, which upset the pork producers. Not often, but I have
seen a few industry speeches on tv about how the other food groups got
a bigger chunk of the food pyramid than the food group rep making the
speech felt they should have gotten. Typically pork complaining about
beef, or both of them complaining about the increase in vegetables. 

But it never decided what I actually ate. I've eaten vegetables, beef,
pork, fish, goat, etc. Improperly cooked anything is bad.

But that doesn't encourage obesity, if anything it reduces it
if you have more meat and less say fried potato chips etc.
