Plenty do in fact talk about that and that approach was tried after WW1 and didn’t work at all.

There are ~50 000 refugees in Ukraine to this day from the reds that fled when they lost. The whites did not do a good job of anything. Running the country, they didn't even manage to collect more than around half the levied taxes. Much less handle a welfare state. This led to turmoil in the 70s, and they had a Junta take power for 4 years. When this fell they had an alternating Christian Democracy(Nea Demokratia) and Social Democracy(PASOK) government until ca 2012. They faked their entry into the Eurozone by a huge margin. They were still unable to collect more than around 2/3rds of the taxes actually levied, and had huge holes in their statistics and accounting. No greek state budget has even been close to passing an audit, ever. Pre-Euro they levied a crisis tax by devaluing, cutting spending when things got too hot. Printing money (which devaluation is) is a flat tax on everyone. This way they managed to collect, even from the shipowners with literally a million deductions in their declarations. In the financial crisis they were caught between a rock and a hard place. The governments tried austerity, but ended up with a pure anti-Keynsian policy. They should have left the Euro then. The result was that all existing parties were wiped out in the next election. Now the new parties have to try to cope. The US is only peripherally involved after ca 1949. And, yes, Greece has been a staunch NATO member all the time. -- mrr

The problem with Greece from ca 1980 onwards hasn't been politics; it has been execution. They have tried to implement a german-style mixed economy with elements of a welfare state. Which seems to be what the greek people wants. But they fail to collect the taxes, and that is just the start of the failings. And they are simply unable to settle a budget. Shipping etc. succeed because they have low wages for professional seamen, and are pretty much independent of the Greek nation. The Greek are also very good sailors. -- mrr

I submit the US was accepted in those countries because it was clear to the people that they were absolutely defeated (something that was not done in WW I). I also submit the invasion of Iraq was prosecuted very badly, and the occupation was horribly mismanaged. Had the US sent over people who understood the real situation in Iraq and dealt with it accordingly, the occupation would've gone smoother. In other posts we talked about the incompetence of MacArthur. Whether by luck or design, IMHO, he did a good job occupying Japan. (Probably because, in part, the Japanese needed someone to worship and MacArthur needed to be worshiped).
