McNamara was not in charge for most of the war. The Tet offensive, which was a military disaster for the North Vietnamese, was a political victory for them. And it ended McNamara (although anybody who served in Vietnam will probably tell you that somebody should have ended him long before). And McNamara was a bean counter--he thought that the path to victory was by the most effective counting of beans. Among other things he's the jackass who foisted off the M-16 and the F-111 on the armed forces because they would "save money"--the F-111 became a money sink that never deliverd a tenth of what was promised and the M-16 took a tremondous lot of fixing before it ceased to be a piece of shit. He's also the moron who implemented the metric of "body counts" like war is a game where the side that kills the most people wins.

in Viet Nam would do that week. That is NOT how to run any military

For your Norden bombsight file. I found this in Wikipedia while looking for
something else, it's one of the modifications made to the B-25s that bombed
Tokyo, ca. 1942.
"Replacement of their Norden bombsight with a makeshift aiming sight
devised by
pilot Capt. Charles Ross Greening and called the "Mark Twain". The
materials
for the bombsight cost only 20 cents"
I also found out that the bombardier of a B-25 didn't have to be a
commissioned officer.
