The real reason that Japan ended up in the very deep shit
indeed was because China woke up, smelt the coffee and
realised that they could produce almost everything except cars
and aircraft and military hardware MUCH more cheaply than
Japan could, and did that, and ate Japan's breakfast, lunch and
dinner with all except cars and are starting to do that with cars
too now.

The reason it paid its workers such a high wage was that there was more
work than there were workers. That and they started saturating their
markets.

There is no hump in Japan. They didn’t even have a baby boom anything
like the west did after the war due to their unique circumstances.

A few, in this case, might be 20-30 or so. In the mean time, how do they
support that increasing number of retired people with fewer and fewer
workers. Immigration might help (not in xenophobic Japan, maybe) because
immigrants tend to be younger and eager to work.

I have read that there was a proposal that retirement homes be opened in
lowincome countries like Gambia to care for aged Japanese. I know that
many Japanese people work and function well into their seventies. The
ageing population thing is partly insurance company bullshit, workers now are
far more productive than when we were contributing to our parents pensions.
