I have never heard of anyone in this country (.ie) being fired when the government changed. The problem it would rise is that the `new' governments would have their appointments negated after the next change. We have a vacency at the moment in our own "Supreme court", it does not seem to be a problem, course the systems are not really equivelent -- greymaus . . ...

It was remarked at the time that presidential pardons were usually reserved for cases where there was an obvious injustice - for example someone had a minor drug conviction as a kid and now twenty years later would like to get a license to practice law. This was some bond issue that by some legal fluke needed a presidential signature, and they got way more subscriptions than they expected.
