That's mostly true, but it doesn't change the societal factors.
One of the reasons the military has physical standards is that each
soldier needs to be able to carry his own gear--and the more gear they
can carry, the more effective they'll be. Allowing women to meet lower
standards ("gender norming") means less effective soldiers.
Also, while a man who meets the regular standards should be capable of
carrying another soldier who's wounded, a woman who meets the lower
standards isn't capable of carrying a man or maybe even other women;
that means more battle casualties (or worse).
One can say such things shouldn't apply to mechanized forces, but they
_do_ have to get out of their vehicles on occasion, e.g. when their
position is overrun or they're shot down, and then they're in the same
boat (often worse) as infantry.

Fought any wars lately, Rod?
What I worry about is that the men will take chances when the women are in
danger that maybe they wouldn't take if it was a guy. I'm not in that
situation, but I'm not sure it's possibly to treat a woman exactly the same
as "one of the guys."

jobs - plenty of those in armaments factories in war time.
The government's demand for clerical workers also increases.

Women have been in combat for centuries. Now, they have weapons to
defend themselves with. All of you should remember the women nurses on
Corregidor Island in Manila Bay in 1941 when Japan invaded the
Phillipines.

When it was suggested that women be required to register for the draft, the Pentagon said (paraphrased) that they already had too many women for the number of non-combat positions available, even in wartime, so there was no point in drafting more of them. Rear area troops still might live in austere conditions and are subject to attack since they do provide a support function. For a soldier, while it's better to be in the rear than the front, there is still plenty of risk.

It depends on the war. In places like Syria, no one is safe. Residential buildings are attacked without regard to the people inside, or perhaps deliberately targeted to kill all the people inside. Terrorism attacks are generally intended to murder people, but, in the grand scheme of things, are rather limited. Unfortunately, these kinds of attacks are hard to defend against unless we turn ourselves into a fortress society, in which case the terrorists have won. It is not realistic to expect a co-worker, who was a friend, to come back and blow away people at their office holiday party. Nor is it realistic to expect someone to walk up to a cop and shoot away at him.

But it is notable that despite the deaths of 100,000 people in both [each] Tokyo and Dresden, neither Germany and Japan would recognize that they had lost the war and surrender. More soldiers and civilians of both sides would have to die before surrender. That is what is scary about the fanatics. The only saving issue is that some of the groups are relatively small and not well equipped. In the U.S., there's a lot more chance of getting killed by a troubled angry person in a mass shooting, then by a true foreign-group inspired terrorist attack. Also, some of the Allied bombing was intended to break the 'will' of the enemy to fight. This was foolish thinking. First off, German and Japanese* bombing only hardened Allied resolve, not weakened it. Well, it did the same thing--the Germans and Japanese were loyal to defending their country. Secondly, Germany and Japan were dictatorships and no dissent was tolerated or discussed. So even if some leading civilians or politicians thought the war was lost, they had to keep their mouths shut or would be shot (and some were). *Japan anticipated that the US would recoil in fear and step aside after Pearl Harbor. But, (mostly) to their surprise, the US got angry and fought back.
