A local financial columnist said that China, because of her internal problems, sold 10% of her US debt in the last three months, with no ill effects. But if that continues I can see that people might get an abrupt awakening and a reminder that things are not going well.

The debt doesn't alter, just who gets the payments. In any case the Chinese hold about 10 percent of the US government debt, which is hardly enough to let them use it to somehow destroy the US economy.

That's what bond markets are for, a way for somebody with more bonds than he wants and less cash to meet somebody with more cash than he wants and less bonds, so that an equitable exchange can be accomplished. For one thing, cut the war on drugs and tax them instead. For another, quit wasting so much money trying unsuccessfully to keep people from cheating on social programs. For a third, we have vastly more military than we really need. But to do that we'd have to shoot all the politicians and start over with a new crop. And probably end up having to shoot them as well, and on until we ran out of idiots who want power.

I'd like to see five options on the ballot for each candidate--yes, no, ban, ban and horswhip, hang.

I think he could have easily beat Obama. The ironic part is the reason he was unacceptable. He accepted a job from Obama to be ambassador to China. Truly a nutcase electorate. -- Dan Espen

What sane candidate would agree to those terms? I think you
would just get nuts or people who would figure that they can get
around the rules?
