Did the structure of Russian government change? If it hasn't, Putin is
subject to the Politburo's decisions and policies, right?

The Poliburo was the governing body of hte Communist Party, which, with
fewer than a quarter of the seats in the legislature, is no longer in
power. He is to some extent subject to the legislature but I'm not at
all clear on how much power he really has, I suspect that he is still
finding that out himself.

Is there still a politburo? Nominally Russia is a democracy, but Putin has
everyone pretty well under control at the moment. I think the only way
he's going to get out is feet-first.

Why remove Putin?,, he is clear in what he wants, sensible, Russ-ocentric

He DID go, just outside the door of the presidency to the post of
Prime Minister under Dimitry Medvedjev when his firt two terms were up.
But that is about as far as he will go. With some trusted people at the
top, and himself 1-3 places away from the core of the power.
That, or he will retire to Switzerland, Antigua, Uruguay or some other place
that will give immunity and citizenship upon a clean interpol sheet and
a permanent investment into the country.

Bet he doesn’t.

Yep.

It has.

Wrong. There is no Politburo anymore.

Today, there are five countries that have a communist politburo
system (China, North Korea, Laos, Vietnam and Cuba).[5]

But given that it was almost certainly just a stroke that killed
him, it's very unlikely that trusting his doctors had anything
at all to do with it. He was just incapable of getting any help
after the stroke and had stupidly put the fear of god into
people about disturbing him, so no one even checked why
he had not come out of his room until what was likely most
of the day after the stroke had happened when it was FAR
too late to do anything about the stroke.
In fact even if he had managed to summon assistance
when the stroke had happened, say because someone
else was in the room at the time it happened, he would
have almost certainly have died of it anyway given what
treatment for stroke was available there at that time, leeches.

Not that easy to kill someone in their sleep with symptoms like that tho.
Rather more likely he had a stroke and that his instructions to not
be disturbed saw no one do anything about him not showing up
in the morning as usual and the lack of any treatment at all for the
best part of a day since the stroke itself sealed his fate. In those
days there was no effective treatment for stroke, just leeches.
Presumably the stroke prevented him from calling anyone himself.

The brutal postwar occupation of Eastern Europe and the Korean War also contributed to the McCarthyite hysteria. Many Americans were angry at domestic Communists and their sympathizers at a time when American boys were fighting in Korea. For instance, the Syracuse grocer who organized a lot of anti-Communist fervor against TV and radio resented advertisers having communists on their payroll as actors when his son was in Korea. The victory of communists in China was also a big contributor and a big political issue, even though in reality the US had no control over the events, and the 'victory' was more due to the utter incompetence and corruption of the Chinese nationalists. "Hysteria" is a good word for it. Lots of innocent people were false accusd of being communist and their lives ruined by the witch-hunters. Some of the witch-hunters, like the Syracuse grocer and his friends, became obsessed with hunting down domestic communists. They got sued for falsely accusing someone, and years later the plaintiff won in court, though by then it was a moot point. > The thing is, though, even in the 1920s, it was clear enough that the Communist regime in Russia was made up of megalomaniacal tyrants bent on power and steeped in cruelty - _not_ of genuine friends of the downtrodden working class. But the fact that the right wing used the real menace of Communism as an excuse to persecute people for advocating racial equality, or for promoting accurate teaching of biological science, or for other activities related to social justice, naturally led some people to the mistaken conclusion that the claims of a Communist threat were all lies. > And so the United States was divided instead of united, less able to face the > challenges of the Cold War. So true. Sadly, while the witch-hunters were running around falsely accusing cafteria workers of being commies, the real communists were at work in espionage or sabotage. Some of their efforts were revealed in books they wrote many years later after they got disillusioned. Ref: "Reds" by Ted Morgan.

It did make sense to get where you wouldn't be exposed to flash burns. Plenty survived Hiroshima and Nagasaki because they weren't exposed to flash burns purely by luck because of where they were when the bomb went off.
