It wasn't that 360 look[sort-of]alikes weren't popular. Univac sold a fair number of them, ranging from equivalents of the 360/20 up through the 370/145. The 9700, though, never really made it. Certainly I never saw one in the flesh. Univac wound up dealing with the upper-mid range by taking over RCA's line when RCA decided to get out of computers. RCA's VMOS (Virtual Memory Operating System) became VS/9, so the fledgling OS/7 (probably a follow-on to the 9400's OS/4) was, as a poster parody illustrated, flushed down the dumper. -- /~\ cgibbs@kltpzyxm.invalid (Charlie Gibbs) \ / I'm really at ac.dekanfrus if you read it the right way.
