I did the update last month on Patch Tuesday. I'm pretty sure I restarted but I'm not going to put my hand on a bible. Yesterday i was reviewing the steps to turn on the optional sshd server feature and the download seemed to stall out. (yes, you can actually ssh into a Windows box like a real computer. It's a feature they don't advertise heavily). Being impatient, I rebooted and got 'Installing updates. Do not turn off your computer'. After quite a few games of GNOME Mahjonng I was starting to search on 'windows update fails' when it finally got to a log in screen. I don't think I'm exaggerating if I say more than 15 minutes. I did finally get sshd up and running. The closest I've come on Linux is doing a version upgrade on Ubuntu. You get to a point where it says 'looking for unused software'. I don't know where it's looking but that takes forever too.
