| When President Donald Trump launched his trade war on the
| world, he issued a stern warning: "Do not retaliate and you
| will be rewarded." China ignored the warning. It was
| rewarded anyway. This morning, Trump largely suspended his
| trade war in return for nothing but promises of ongoing
| discussions. There is a lesson here for everybody Trump
| threatens, whether countries or businesses or universities.

No country in its right mind would
trust Trump to honor any agreement he
makes. He has spent his whole life
breaking promises and is still doing it.

Whoever speaks first, loses — The power of silence in negotiation for
business leaders
This old negotiation adage states that the first to break a silence may
inadvertently show their hand, revealing their intent, weakness or
desperation. It’s often tempting to fill the air with arguments and
counterarguments in a negotiation.
