I saw a pretty interesting post a while ago that suggested the north wall of the North Tower was momentarily a ~60 story section of unsupported wall. It started falling over like a tree being chopped down, pivoting at plaza level. It did so until it struck WTC6, and that caused the falling wall to break off into a few pieces, including about at where it hit the top of WTC6. The uppermost section of this wall fell over and struck WTC7 causing the big gash barely visible in some photos/videos. A lower section smashed huge holes in the top of WTC6. The bottommost section of the falling wall is the section left standing, splayed at an odd angle leaning toward WTC6, frozen at the point when the top broke off.
