Actually I'm German and live in Berlin.
The situation here is quite different than what people think.

At first impression: there are a LOT of youngsters, who come from all 
over the world to Berlin.

The majority of 'immigrants' stem from western countries: USA, Spain, 
Italy, UK, Greece.

Than we have a large amount of tourists and Berlin is actually a major 
destination in German tourism.

The 'security situation' in Berlin: 'all quiet on the western front...'

(something like that).

There are actually problems here and there, but mainly Berlin is quite 
safe (at least for most of the people).

E.g. even the 'bad areas' like so called 'Soldiner Kiez' or certain 
parts of Kreuzberg are quite ok and do by no means look like a slum. And 
this was already the worst Berlin has to offer.

The 'refugee crisis' is like a tide and hundreds of thousands of people 
from mainly Arabic countries have entered the EU and now wait for a 
better life in refugee camps.

Fortunately Germany has a few bucks left and is able to pay for food and 
shelter.

But life could be pretty boring in such a camp and without hope for 
significant change.

So we have certain related activities, that originate in such camps.

But Berlin has also a very efficient police force, who is able to handle 
even larger problems. So refugees are well advised not to commit too 
many (and too obvious) crimes, if they like to stay a little longer in 
this country.
