#21707 — Can Thunderbird handle message-ids?

From"s|b" <me@privacy.invalid>
Date2026-08-07 16:47 +0200
SubjectCan Thunderbird handle message-ids?
Message-ID<ndm9ffFq1m9U4@mid.individual.net>
Subject is my question: can TB handle message-ids?

Like this one?

Message-ID: <ndm9bjFq1m9U3@mid.individual.net>

Or

Message-ID: <news:ndm9bjFq1m9U3@mid.individual.net>

In Agent, doubleclicking on this will lead me to the posting. Is it the
same with TB?

Unfortunately not. The mnenhy add-on previously helped.
Now I just copy and paste to <https://usenet.id>

Take that back. This one works. The other fails.

For me with TB 153.0.2, first one... no; the second with 'news'... yes.

With my Agent 8 and just a single click (double doesn't help), the first
launches a dialog box requiring a step to activate it as a
'Message-id'... while the second (again as single click) performs the
task natively.

I just doubleclick. I've set it up, so it's automatically recognised as
a message-id. I don't see that dialog box anymore.

That's no problem with the Add-On "Open by Message-ID":

  thunderbird.exe news:ndm9bjFq1m9U3@mid.individual.net

    [Picture] It works

The rest of it, is going to be via MIME routing (from
one program to another, in your OS).

The standards-compliant news:ndm9bjFq1m9U3@mid.individual.net works
out-of-the-box by simple click, for more options, there is
https://services.addons.thunderbird.net/thunderbird/addon/open-by-message-id/.
