Can Thunderbird display ANSI text within a message?
You know those fancy ANSI art back in the golden
days of B.B.S., widely used in login and menu
screens?
I designed those screens while being co-sysop
of the Concerto BBS Group back then. :)

Not just that. You need a special
fixed-width fonts that also decodes
ANSI. Um.... maybe a custom font
like those smiling-face fonts. Oh,
it's called Emoji? :)

Unless I misunderstood, Flnews Usenet Reader does not
decode ANSI escape codes.

UTF-8. Where do I find the ANSI coloring setting/label?

Cheers, Bev
There's something wrong with my keyboard.
Whenever I type x I get x.

But is it >> ANSI coloring? > > UTF-8. Where do I find the ANSI coloring setting/label? “ANSI”, in this sense, is a set of escape sequences for setting such things as coloᵘr. Ref: <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ANSI_escape_code> Eli the Bearded’s first reply has an example of these ANSI escape sequences — and demonstrates that these do not work in Thunderbird. These ANSI escape sequences were for coloᵘr TTYs. Back in Man-wai Chang’s “golden days of B.B.S.”, ANSI escape sequences worked in the terminal emulator programs used by B.B.S. users. ANSI escape sequences do not work in modern GUI newsreaders such as Thunderbird. 🟫🟥🟧🟨🟩🟦🟪🟫🟥🟧🟨🟩🟦🟪🟫🟥🟧🟨🟩🟦🟪

Looks like Unicode(UTF-8? UTF-16?) characters?
Google has no problem displaying them. :)
Emoji-s? Why don't they make a font for
ANSI escape codes? VT-100? 3270?

I think you should be congratulating the poster, on a job well done. The colored squares appear just fine in my copy of Thunderbird. And that's what matters. Paul

You don't usually "congratulate" someone's
effort, but thank him/her. Or you can
use that finger salute.
If someone's effort earned an award, you
then congratulate him/her. You can
however use the same finger salute. :)
