I guess I have to take responsibility for launching this gravely
off-topic discourse.

However, that supposed difference in pronunciation certainly doesn't
apply in the West; I suspect it's a southern Ontario-ism... and still
isn't universal.

Ditto the 'eh' habit, though that in BC appears to be a
rural/small-town habit, not major urban.  [See also Aotearoa/New
Zealand...]

them off and it is most entertaining.

But if they go independent and set up a free trade zone
between us, that we'd jump at.  It would be a win win
all around.

And they would not longer have to pay a 700% tariff on
our chicken products.  And no tariff and weird taxes on
their oil.

You remind me of something that amused me recently:

The leader of one of our political parties has resigned as an MP, but
will stand in the replacement contest - basically, he's making his
constituents pay for a quarter of a million pound popularity poll for
himself. None of the other parties are playing ball - i. e. not putting
up a candidate - which means the only opposing candidates are the joke
ones (who always participate in such elections here, for light relief).
One is "called" Count Binface - here's his manifesto:

I particularly liked his take on Brexit: "Invite European countries to

Iran is predictable. "Death to the west" is pretty clear.  Trump has 
succeeded beyond all expectation in generating unpredictability.  A 
little is a good thing, of course...

Yes, I'm a northerner (by English standards) - I wear shorts and sandals
all year round; the locals here ask me if I'm not cold (which is an odd
question; if I was, I'd wear more!). The amount of wind is also
significant, and - at least in the case of hot weather - the humidity.
