My attitude about 'this' as an 'outlier'.

IMO I would 'rather' there be some kind of Tb 'fork', a big fork, which 
completely eschews that html engine; that could neither render nor 
create html - which is a big requirement for those who believe Tb to be 
a mail agent which MUST do html - but instead the fork would entirely 
drop html; whether it wanted to be able to DO plaintext email at all 
would possibly be at hand for the dev/s.

In my world, it only needs to be a plaintext news agent, greatly 
simplifying its duties, but it needs to be a BETTER news agent, w/ 
proper filtering w/ wildcards, regex, and scoring.

But, itseemstome that the Tb dev/s do not even *participate* in 
newsgroups, or if some of them do, not many.

There are workarounds by which I could put a proper little personal 
newsserver between my NSP and Tb to do that work, so I suppose I should 
just shut up and do something like that.

Fork Thunderbird? Ghod intended News and Mail to be read from an 80
character wide terminal. Everything you want is availlable at the
command line.

I use a combined client, alpine, for Mail, preferring a separate
newsreader. We are better off with clients that specialize.

My fave 'feature' of alpine is how it managed to integrate its functions 
with its configuration and its help.

I would like to see more software be able to do that so well.

pine did that. The extensive help and the guided rc file editing was
because UWash freshman had zero computer experience and this was their
first eposure to email. Eduardo was there when it was still pine, toward
the end, then it became alpine because UWash was concerned about losing
a copyright infringement lawsuit and had to change much of the
underlying code and libraries. Shortly after that, they fired the
programmers.

There was a fork of alpine he had nothing to do with, then he resumed
work on alpine on his own when the Re-Alpine fork was abandoned.

Regardless, I love alpine because it is the only client guaranteed to do
IMAP right, a mustphave feature for me.

I don't care for the common interface it uses for Usenet. Why users like
common interfaces is beyond me. I use it as backup only. Also, for
years, pine did pseudo threding. I think Eduardo was there when pine
finally had the ability to do genuine threading but I don't recall.

I'll stick with trn for News.

However, I use alpine fo my archive of News articles since I save them
in Berkeley fomat.

He's at the New Mexico State U - Carlsbad NM campus/site - or, depending 
on when and where you read about the school, it is also (and now) known 
as Southeast New Mexico College.

I do know that EC is in Carlsbad AND he has/had a nmsu.edu address.

I would love a control that allowed HTML up to (I think it was) 3.0, for
formatting, but disabled all scripting. In emails (and news posts) that
is; AIUI TB actually _uses_ HTML for things like its pane layout.

new profile, the it changed its mind

Th was the only program experiencing that issue.

"accept abbreviation" is command or acceptance.

I believe yuo meant "acceptED abbreviation".

BTW, if you look at the periodic table,
"Th" is Thorium. And it's related to
Thor, as in Avengers. "Tb" is Terbium.

Are they all rare earth elements? ;)

And that's why I asked for his/her
confirmation. Maybe he's using
newsgruops unrelated to chemistry
to send secret encoded messages.

Back to your problem: reinstall
your Thunderbird using offline
installer!!

Directory Listing: /pub/thunderbird/releases/

If you were not allowed to do so,
then stop using that PC, and leave
the place now. You might be baited
to use a faulty PC.

I could get at if needed.  So in a way, yes.

As long as you had a backup of your old
profile, just try anything. Nothing to
lose anyway.

Did you stamp-chop your old profile with
a  date-time?  Can be very useful  some-
times.

No.  I just moved it and added ".bad" as
its extension.   I have dated profiles in
the past for various reasons though.

So far the new profile is working perfectly.
