#16894 — Font sizes for quote levels

FromAndy Burns <usenet@andyburns.uk>

SubjectFont sizes for quote levels
Message-ID<malse0FqmltU1@mid.individual.net>
It's slowly dawned on me that the text of quoted parts of a received
message are larger than the unquoted parts; it doesn't vary depending
on the actual quote depth, just one size for unquoted, another for any
depth of quoting.

I've tried troubleshooting mode to confirm it's not an add-on doing it.

Using inspector, the quoted text is within
<blockquote style="font-size: large">
so that explains *why* it's larger.

The non-quoted part is just within <body><div> but no <blockquote>

Before I run off hacking .css files, is anyone else seeing the same?

Maybe you can change this in the config editor.
Look for "mail.quoted_size" and\or "mail.quoted_style".
My default is "0" for both.

Is this with plain text messages or HTML messages?

What are your settings at

Settings >> Plain Text Messages >> When displaying quoted plain text messages:

Thunderbird internally converts plain text messages to HTML for display,
so that it can render quoted text differently. Inspector shows the
converted-to HTML, not the raw message source.

FYI I am not seeing the same with plain text messages.
I am also not seeing the same with HTML messages, not unless the
message source itself sets a larger font size.

Apart from fixed width, I have all my fonts (serif and non-serif, latin
and other writing systems) set to Consoleas 14pt

At "Plain Text Messages", you should have a setting like this:

   Plain Text Messages

   [x] Display emoticons as graphics

When displaying quoted plain text messages:
        Style: [________|v]    Size: [________|v]   [____]

You may be looking at "Settings >> Fonts", rather than at
"Settings >> Plain Text Messages".
