Good day. Today TB decided to update all by itself, so now I'm on the latest and greatest. There are lots of terrible things, but the absolute worst is with RSS feeds - TB no longer downloads the articles! All I see if I open an article in its own tab is the summary. What the hell?! Please tell me I am missing something! How do I read full RSS articles now inside TB without invoking a browser? Thanks. -- ! _\|/_ Sylvain / B00ze64@hotmail.com ! (o o) Member:David-Suzuki-Fdn/EFF/Red+Cross/SPCA/Planetary-Society oO-( )-Oo I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Coming back to this issue, I have no problem switching to Betterbird but
can you confirm that it displays newsfeed articles as web page?

I don't use BB (tried it once), and TB displays newsfeeds like email so I'm guessing so
does BB.

There are RSS Add-ons for browsers. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-CA/firefox/addon/feedbroreader/ ******* As for your version, you could consult backup images of the machine. For example, the "compatibility.ini" file in firefox at least, tracks the current program version used with the profile. Firefox, Thunderbird, and Seamonkey, use the same scheme. Here, you can see my Seamonkey was updated recently to 2.53.20 and the profile was then "migrated" to that version. [Compatibility] LastVersion=2.53.20_20250104154918/20250104154918 LastOSABI=WINNT_x86_64-msvc LastPlatformDir=C:\Program Files\SeaMonkey LastAppDir=C:\Program Files\SeaMonkey If you open a recent backup, there's a chance the "compatibility.ini" will tell you. But there could be a fair number of "compatibility.ini" sitting on disk, somewhere. You can have profiles that are normally not used, just sitting on the disk drive. Paul

Thanks, Compatibility.ini says I was on 102.15.1. So I zipped the v128 installation, restored v91 installation (last time I backed-up the install folder) and "updated" to v102, that took care of the executable. As for the profile, I got a robocopy script that backs it up so I restored it from Monday. I tried deleting then re-subscribing to one of my feeds in v128 but same issue, all I got was the articles summary. It's possible that on a brand new profile the feeds work, I haven't tried, it would be a lot of trouble starting from scratch. > Firefox, Thunderbird, and Seamonkey, use the same scheme. > Here, you can see my Seamonkey was updated recently to 2.53.20 > and the profile was then "migrated" to that version. > > [Compatibility] > LastVersion=2.53.20_20250104154918/20250104154918 > LastOSABI=WINNT_x86_64-msvc > LastPlatformDir=C:\Program Files\SeaMonkey > LastAppDir=C:\Program Files\SeaMonkey > > If you open a recent backup, there's a chance the > "compatibility.ini" will tell you. Yes, it's messy. The Thunderbird staff, do not want Thunderbird to be used as a general purpose browser. Only the "donation" web page, is to appear on your screen :-) Paul

It depends on what the feed contains. Some have just a summary, some complete articles. If you view the xml you'll see. Here's a feed which should contain full articles: <https://www.theatlantic.com/feed/all/> I've no idea what TB does. -- Remove numerics from my email address.

The Atlantic feed is noteworthy because the magazine's website is paywalled. I can read in my feedreader (I use SparseRSS Mod on Android) what would cost me $80/yr to read on their website. -- Remove numerics from my email address.

Looks worth keeping, have added a few uBO element filters to hide the web-page header/footers

I find some/most articles do get truncated, same way that some paywalls do it (an overlay that fades from transparent to opaque) at least it's better than the Times which does it after the first sentence, the Atlantic lets you read several paragraphs ...

Then in the main Thunderbird window: View (Alt-V) - Feed Message Body As - select what fits your needs. It's 'Default Format' here, and that opens the feed article as a web page in Thunderbird. When opening the feed article in a tab, and with the uBlock Origin extension installed in Thunderbird, then there are no ads either. Beautiful.

Thank you, that worked > When opening the feed article in a tab, and with the uBlock Origin > extension installed in Thunderbird, then there are no ads either. > Beautiful. I tried "web page" instead of "default format", that seemed to lose the cookie popups, I might consider adding uBO to thunderbird.

And you have v112 or newer? I opened a bug on Bugzilla and it was marked
as a duplicate, so the issue exists :-(
