SubjectNo text in incoming emails.
Message-ID<rq92dglon0j18ci83suu32gknkav4rt04u@4ax.com>
A friend can read her email fine on her tablet, but when she tries using
thunderbird on Windows, she get the email but there is no text.

How can that be? What should she do about it?

Been happening for about 2 days.

AFAIK no text means the headers got downloaded by Thunderbird can't
fetch the content. Is she in fact on the internet when she tries to
open the email?

What version of Thunderbird?

Did you ask her to try safe mode? You have been around long enough to
know the standard troubleshooting procedures.

I think there is some issue with the Conversations extension.

I had something not quite similar; as it happened when writing
for a response. The problem was the dark scheme I use for TB
& found that tb reversed the color setting. I had to change the
text background to white even tho the text shows as white on black.
Thought I had a virus. Just reading mail the tools/option the color
for reading text is black on a white background.

The poster just need to go in & change the colors since tb mangled
it for a dark background; I do suspect that if/when tb fix it, we will
have to redo the text foreground & background.

Latest, I think, but not beta.

Maybe she uses that.

This sounds related, because iirc she's also had major changes in the
Firefox taskbar color, at the same time that I had changes in the tabs
(such as the speaker icon and the lines between the tabs) Before i knew
about this ng, the people at Win10 solved my problem for me, but
strangely I never saw any change in colors, even though she did.

To check whethere there's invisible text, e.g. black-on-black, try
selecting it using the mouse.

Good idea. Forwarded. Just put the cursor where the text should be and
use Ctrl-A

Click the hamburger in upper right, then Help » About Thunderbird.
That will tell you your version number, whether a later version is
available.

Never, never, ever  suggest that so a user doesn't accidentally update
unexpectedly.

Using Help > Troubleshooting Information will reveal the version number
under Application Basics.

   Missa, note this last sentence.

We have a winner! I myself haven't looked at the color settings she
referred to but she tells me it was white on white so she couldn't see
anything, even though she hadn't changed anything.

This was one of 3 problems that started all at once. The others were
related to Sending. IIUC at first she coudln't modify the to: field.
She got past that and then couldnt' get the insertion point to go into
the text field. (she doesn't remmeber how she solved that) And then she
couldn't send. I guess she got past that too. She's been using her
tablet a lot so she's not sure anymore when these problems started, but
I suppose it was when TB updated itself.

And Dave Royal was right too.

(Not that all your suggestions weren't good.)

So, when she checked color settings in Tbird, which look like:

https://user-media-prod-cdn.itsre-sumo.mozilla.net/uploads/images/2017-01-03-17-41-57-f3f9cb.png

she saw text was set to white and background was set to white, too? Did
she do that? Maybe some add-on she installed did that. Have you
checked what add-ons she's installed into Tbird, or asked if she
recently uninstalled any?

Or was it with one particular sender using HTML formatting that
specified white on white for coloring in their message? With HTML, you
can specify colors, and some choices are horrid.

It seems highly unlikely that an add-on would do that. What's much more
likely is that she did it herself and didn't realize it.

Has the Fetch Headers Only option been chenged in the server settings?

I've never used this option, so I don't know what the actual results
would be.

+1 for this one.
French public services send automated messages as multipart/mixed, but
the plain-text is empty.

The friend should definitely check for a HTML-version of the “empty”
message.
