Thunderbird often stalls - not responding according to Windows. (Latest
on Win 10)

Any ideas about what might cause this?

This is what did some time ago.

Optimized the drive, refreshed Windows 10 with the keep data option and
reinstalled all the programs I used from Mozilla.

Also set the drives to optimize weekly and only use Windows Defender.
Can't remember if I set that to not scan Thunderbird.

I haven't seen many "Not responding" since doing that.

Have you tried compacting your folders, especially Trash?

instead become a personality cult worshiping Donald Trump.

Any chance of a multi-thread Thunderbird in the future?

Implemented in TB 86.0b1, which is now 90.0b2, and should be in the next
release 91, if there are no major blockers.

anti-virus or anti-malware scanning TB's folders? Try setting an
exception for the folders ...

A turned off anti-virus (for thunderbird) with no major difference.

What has improved the situation is turning off frequent checks for new
content. My gmail accounts all seem to support notifications of new
mail and stay up to date without frequent checks.

Thanks for the anti-virus reminder - I need to turn it back on and see
what happens. It's not clear to me its needed since any bad content
will hopefully be caught when another app tries to open it.

Yes, I remember others have reported similar in the past, possibly turn
off the check at startup, and stagger the intervals for different accounts?
