#392 — Change order of buttons (icons) above message in newsgroups

From"Dirk T. Verbeek" <dverbeek@xs4all.nl>
Date2021-05-01 12:13 +0200
SubjectChange order of buttons (icons) above message in newsgroups
Message-ID<608d29e3$0$21144$e4fe514c@news.xs4all.nl>
When reading a newsgroup message and I want to reply to the group I now
need to click on the second button from the left, the first is for a
reply to the sender.
I am pretty sure at one time we could change the order of these buttons
but presently (78.7.1 (64-bits)) I seem to miss this option.

Am I looking at the wrong place?

Are you using the right-click customize way of editing it?

Icons above message is kinda vague to me. I have all sorts of different ways to view a message, preview pane or full screen in a new tab.
Still there are 2 sets of icons. One in the header and one on the toolbar. Yet 'customize' lets you move them around.

That no longer exists in TB itself. There is a newish add-on that
brings back the customise option, that lets you show/hide different
buttons and move them up/down the list ...

<https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-GB/thunderbird/addon/msghdr-toolbar-customize/?src=search>

Search TB add-ons for "Message Header Toolbar Customize"

> Icons above message is kinda vague to me.

Presumably he means the Message pane toolbar.

Yes, I kinda figured that out after all the other posts.

Am I missing something here?

The 'Customise' function for removing/adding still exists in my TB
78.10.0 with Windoze.

Though I do admit one cannot change the appearance order of those
items you've chosen to remain.

That is what the original poster was trying to do... re-order them. The
add-on provides that capability.

So, you can still right-click in the message header, where the From:,
To: or Newsgroup: and Subject: fields exist and customize the Reply,
Followup, Forward, Archive, Delete and More buttons?

I just tried that in a test profile and a newsgroup with no luck.

For me it works perfectly.
No more accidentally replying to the poster.

If you have the 'customize' option then either you're running an older
thunderbird, or you've already installed the add-on.

No extensions... zippo, unless you count two Real English
dictionaries... and as stated TB 78.10.0, up to date on release
channel.

Just to be sure we are talking about the same thing. I am talking about
the buttons in the header to the right of the From: field. I am not
taking about the buttons in the toolbar under the menu and above the
From: field.

These are the buttons that no longer have a customize option in native
TB, but do have a "customize toolbar" option if the add-on is installed.

Yes, you can. With the Customize dialog box open, Simply drag any button
where you want it.

Ignore the above. I misunderstood which buttons this was about.

That option has been missing since Thunderbird 69.0b1.

You can install the Message Header Toolbar Customize extension and use it.
