Windows 10 Pro, x64. Thunderbird 89.0b1. Is it necessary to compact
newsgroups or if you set Thunderbird to delete messages older than 12
days does it automatically do this?

I have my folder/server setting set to delete messages by age, and
occasionally it prompts me to compact them.

There is a setting to compact automatically when more than X bytes can be saved.
