AOL/Yahoo/... have at least IMAP and SMTP, and I'm presuming POP too, for free, the issue will be that, unless the "application password" option is still available, you'll need to log in with OAuth2, and that has been AFAIK broken on their side (requiring newer features) for a while. -- Nuno Silva

I have two free yahoo emails accounts. I can access them using thunderbird (Imap) just fine. It used to also work with seamonkey mail too, but recently one of the yahoo accounts no longer works. I think seamonkey is trying to prompt for a password, but seamonkey is too broken now to even enter a password for the account.

I have a Gmail account I can no longer access using Seamonkey/Mail and I believe that was something Google changed. It is not a big deal for me, I only created the Gmail account because Android pretty much requires one and I don't actually use it for communication.

Gmail now requires either OAuth2 or application-specific passwords (which in turn require, I think, two-factor authentication to be enabled, not meaning you have to use two-factor for authentication with these passwords in SeaMonkey Mail&News or Thunderbird, but that the feature to generate new application passwords will only be visible/accessible in the Google account settings if you have two-factor enabled on that account). AOL/Yahoo/Verizon/... at least used to have a similar feature too, IIRC without the two-factor requirement? (But this lack of requirement is a detail I really should confirm...) Do note that, with OAuth2, the server addresses have to match what's provided in the instructions, alternative addresses that resolve to the same server may not trigger the OAuth2 workflow. And, apparently, the case has to match too (when in doubt, use lower case). -- Nuno Silva

This is well over a year ago and I can't remember all the details, but I believe this did not happen after installing a new Seamonkey level. There may have been some other update which triggered it, or it may have been something Google did.

I have a gmail account I use every day. It still works perfectly with seamonkey browser AND seamonkey Mail (imap).

I have a Gmail account, too, and no difficulties using POP3 on SM since it required and I implemented OAuth2. It does nag me about a "new sign-on" whenever my IP address changes, but I just discard those messages and get on with my life. -- War doesn't determine who's right, just who's left. -- Paul B. I likewise have no problems with Gmail/Google here. I use IMAP with Gmail in SeaMonkey and use contacts.google.com to add new ones on occasion as well as maps.google.com when something works better there than on the phone. Dave
