#8166 — Seamonkey Mail can't pass OAuth2 authentication

From"Jota.Ce" <josecss.es@gmail.com>

SubjectSeamonkey Mail can't pass OAuth2 authentication
Message-ID<10fps3k$3o0j1$1@dont-email.me>
Hi there.

I think i have reached the limit of days i can stay without providing a new authentication in my organization (new OAuth2 token?), as a popup
window appears requiring username and password when i try to retrieve new mails.

The problem is when i fill the password and in the next window i have to click on "Continue" in "Trust in <your organizarion domain>?" question.

That button does nothing and both buttons (Cancel and Continue) stand in grey forever. There's no change to fill the new OTP code provided by
our authenticator app.

I have made this process several times, and SeaMonkey was able to handle this without problems.

Any suggestion?

I ran into a similar problem with my Yahoo mail account. Unfortunately
the omly solution I found was to install Thunderbird and use it for my
Yahoo mail. Perhaps this will be fixed later, but for now I can live
with this.

I had problems with Yahoo which I got around by disabling and
re-enabling javascript during the authentication process. It was not
easy but I did document it in this group.

I've had to use FF to get to my Yahoo mail account for the last month or so.

I don't think I have Javascript enabled in my SeaMonkey.

How might I enable it in SeaMonkey??

It is enabled by default.

Preferences -> Advanced -> Scripts
That will show you what you have (or not).

Oh, right, and there it is ....

Browser -> Allow scripts for ...
Change status bar text
Disable or replace context menus
(so bottom two only)

And then, in 'Debugging' "Show chrome JavaScript errors and warnings"

In Edit->Preferences->Advanced->Scripts i only have check marks on:
  - Change text on statusbar (allow JS to do it)
  - Show chrome JS errors and warnings

I can't do anything in that OAuth2 popup window with context menu, shortchut keys, address bar,... just only clicking and writing on form's text
boxes, and clicking on form's buttons.

Is there maybe a setting in about:config to allow any other actions?

Does anyone know how to avoid that a form or a popup window forbids using context menu or shortcuts?

I mean... a form could forbit those actions through JavaScript, but... why can't you just simply hit F5 on that popup window?

It probably is about either how the window includes the web page area,
or about how the window is opened.

My guess is that currently, even without controls, it'll be possible to
come up with a hack using the Browser Console.

*Possible* yes, albeit quick and dirty. And from a not-so-caffeinated brain:

{let e = Services.wm.getEnumerator(""); while (e.hasMoreElements()) {
let w = e.getNext(); if (w.document.documentURI ==
"chrome://messenger/content/browserRequest.xul") {console.log("Window
found, reloading content frame");
w.document.getElementById("requestFrame").reload(); break;}}}

(I wrote that in one line to avoid having to deal with newlines in the
browser console when copy-pasting this, but it's going to get wrapped in
this post anyway :-) )

(That ought to loop through windows*, and, if the Mail&News'
browserRequest.xul window is found, reloads its content. If more than
one such window exists, only the first gets reloaded ("break;").)

* (I have to check if "" does the same as null or not, but it does get
the OAuth2 request window, so that's OK here; that window does not seem
to have a type, so specifying one won't work here?)

This code would go in the prompt in the Browser Console window
(reachable from a Navigator window: Tools->Web Development->Browser
Console, or Ctrl+Shift+J, at least on Windows and Linux). My notes say
this needs the chrome.devtools.enabled preference to be set to true
(otherwise there will be no such prompt in the Browser Console).)

Hi.

Before anything, thanks a lot for your time and your knowledge.

Excuse me, but Browser console is read-only here.

I have set chrome.devtools.enabled to true, but i think i can't see any difference from before: Browser console only shows some errors, but it
doesn't let me write anything.

OK, the exact setting is devtools.chrome.enabled and then you get the prompt line.

I'll try to go on.

Thanks, by the way.

Thanks, and sorry for that. I had the preference name wrong in my

Fixed that about:config setting, but it won't get me in at the end.

These are my steps:
  - Browser console open with prompt
  - Click on Receive new mail -> OAuth2 popup will show
  - My organization requests me to log in with user/pass
  - Then i get the "Do you trust..." screen -> Click on "Continue"
  - Pasted that code in Browser console
  - Popup window reloads (THANKS!) and gets to a new "phase"
  - I got a login request from MS with URL login (dot) microsoftonline (dot) com (slash) someotherthings
  - Then i provide my email address
  - Then it request me to enter 2FA code
  - Then it goes to m365 (dot) cloud (dot) microsoft (without .com) (slash) someotherthings and i get a blank screen
  - Then i disable Scripts in Browser Preferences and i try to reload with Browser console trick
  - Then it shows an error telling that JavaScript is mandatory

So thanks a lot for your help trying to bypass the "Do you trust" screen, but it seems that Seamonkey can no longer load those URLs and can no
longer get OAuth2 token.

By the way, i don't know if it's relevant, but evreytime i launch the instruction you provided, Browser console shows an undefinded register and
2 duplicated errors: "Empty string passed to getElementById()"

Thanks again and regards.

Hi again.

If i disable Scripts in Preferences->Advanced, i just get a blank screen on Oath2 authentication in my organization. I mean... i can't pass to
get that "Do you trust in xxx.com?".

If i keep it enabled to get the organization user sign-in screen, and disable it before clicking "Sign-in" button, it just shows a simple screen
where login (.) microsoftonline (.) com says that javascript is disabled and is mandatory.

Could you please copy here what were your steps to pass through these limitations?

Thanks in advance.

So I turn off javascript, set authentication to Oauth2, go to the yahoo
email account and click on the inbox, the restricted window comes up, I
enter the user name and password, I get the 2fa dialog, I click text
message to phone, I click stay authenticated, then I go back to the
browser window and enable javascript. I click resend the code and wait
for the timeout, then resend again, and I get a code, which I enter,
then it askes me to agree to Oauth2 terms, and I am in, and I can see
emails in my Yahoo account via Imap.

This didn't all work first time, and at some point during the
proceedings, after javascript was re-enabled, I clicked help and
accepted cookies.

Thanks, but i can't reproduce that behaviour in my case.

But the curious thing is that "Do you trust..." window has this titlebar:
login (.) microsoftonline (.) com (/) login (.) srf and...
  - In a regular tab, if i manually go there, it redirects to m365 (.) cloud (.) microsoft and i get a pure blank screen.
  - In a private tab, it takes me to MS login, and 2FA screen, without asking me to trust my domain.
  - In SM Mail Oauth2 popup, it takes me to my organization Sing-in form, and then to the "Do you trust..." screen. It doesn't get to 2FA screen
even if i confirm i trust my domain.
  - And a weird thing more: in "Do you trust..." form "Cancel" button works OK, telling that "AADSTS90135: The user decided not to continue the
authentication. No remediation is required"

It seems that SM can't pass that latter screen, no matter if JS is enabled (Continue button turns from blue to grey, and nothing else happens
there) or disabled (simple HTML screen tells you JS is disabled, and it's mandatory).

I'm feeling really down with this.

SM Mail is probably going to die here if i can't access my work mails.

Regards.
