#18130 — Firefox update: version 155

From"John C." <r9jmg0@yahoo.com>

SubjectFirefox update: version 155

Be forewarned.

https://www.firefox.com/en-US/firefox/155.0/releasenotes/?ref=itsfoss.com

I, for one, will be disabling FF updates until a .1 is released. Getting
sick and tired of all the major paradigm shifts and having to squander
time finding kludges and alternatives for my extensions.

And ultimately, I'm not looking forward to the new, rounded corners
"Nova" interface.

So forewarn us, what screwed up on your system.

And I agree, what's this f**king thing about round buttons and corners. Seems it's
everywhere.

Well, I changed my mind and decided to allow the update. It didn't
disable any of my extensions, so that's good. It left my tab bar's
position alone (I like mine right above the website content), so that
was also good.

However, it did round the corners of tabs and fields, but that wasn't as
big an issue as I expected.

Mozilla has "improved" containers, but that's a feature I find
completely useless.

I expect that, as usual with a non-decimal update, there will be some
bugs that will be corrected in a decimal update. However, at this point
I haven't experienced any.

Most noticeable for me on the "Settings" pages, but not really an
annoyance ,,,

Rounded tabs/addresses (and the floating appearance) have been in use
since Proton was launched in mid-2021. Version 89?

I'm using one browser for personal and work activities, containers are super-cool when you have to use different accounts on one site, for example, Github or gmail.

Also, firefox is the only mainstream browser that supports that, chromium-based ones using different concept with "users" which isn't actually usable in real life.

Forgot to add "YMMV" to my reply. Sorry about that.

"a non-decimal update" .... "a decimal update"??

And, in your mind, John, that means ..........?? (A 153 -> 154 update v
153.1  -> 153.2 update, maybe)

Non-decimal upate (although zero *is* a number) example: 155.0
Decimal update: 155.1

Seems pretty clear to me.

I propose that main stream FF version increments go up in 1/8ths, and
ESR stream in 1/32nds

Gotta laugh!

IIRC. Here in the UK we officially went decimal in 1971, but now 55 years
later though in day to day use we use Decimal, but in our heads and
general chit chat we still use Imperial.

I often still talk about boards being 8 x 4 feet (2.440 x 1.220 metric) or
timber sizes being 4 x 2 inches (100 x 50 mm), or cement in half a Cwt
bags. (25 kilos).

In my minds eye I can visualise an 8 x 4 board, but 2.440 x 1.220 has no
mind image.

Funny old world 'innit'

What about a so-called Euro pallet (EPAL)? They are 120 x 80 cm.

It's not really a thing I notice. When I use Fx to go to a website I'm
mainly looking at the content of the website, not round corners.

Yeap! I reckon it would be a pretty poorly designed web-site if everyone
is concentrating on the shape of the 'corners'.
