I use Startpage.com. Have been for years. In the beginning they were an
alternative to Scroogle, but not that long ago I learned Startpage
combines the searches of Google and Bing.

I block those with Pi-Hole.

Have you tried Startpage.com?

Well one can do that with random occasional redirects, but Google search
in Firefox is sending a redirect EVERY time one clicks on a search
result and tries to open the link in a new tab. I don't want open the
link in the same tab, because then I'll have to go Back to see the other
search results. I prefer to use a new tab and they all generate
redirects.

I've been ignoring this thread... but your EVERY shout tipped me over
the edge.

Switching my choice to Google on Ffox 153.0.1/Win 11, I entered a
simple city name 'Vancouver' into the search box. The results began
with a Wonkpedia link which I ignored.

The City of Vancouver's home page (https://vancouver.ca) was second.
Clicking on that did not open a new tab... nor AFAICT did it
re-direct. At least, the resulting page appeared instantaneously and
the URL in the address bar was identical.

Ditto for choice #3, Destination Vancouver, the local tourist bureau:

No new tab... same URL.

And on, and on.

Switching to DuckDuckGo, the hierarchy of results varied slightly...
but trying the same links for each/all re-tested delivered the same
result: no re-direct nor new tab.

Another Micky Mouse problem?

I'm using v153.0 now but there is a suggestion to Restart to Update.

Yes, mere clicking does not open a new tab. That's why I said I tried to
open a new tab. I do that by first right-clicking.

Did you right-click and then choose Open a new tab?

When you talk like that it's hard to take you seriously.

Yairs... new tab or simply in the same tab: no difference with any of
the same test choices... nor with a different search engine. The link
simply opens as, er, directed.

To quote you: "... but Google search in Firefox is sending a redirect
EVERY time one clicks on a search result and tries to open the link in
a new tab."

No attempt by Google itself to open a new tab.

No evidence of a re-direct.

Nobody,

>>> You may have noticed by now that clicking on Google search links
>>> sometimes or always makes you stop at a page to "permit" redirection

> Another Micky Mouse problem?

It's definitily possible that Micky has the problem he describes - though
with every person posting that they see no such thing it becomes
less-and-less likely (He could have posted the HTTP "A" elements contents
showing the to-be-redirected URL as to support his claim (Firefox makes it
rather easy to do so), but somehow that has escaped him).

It makes me remember quite some years ago, where Google indeed did redirect
to itself, appending the actual target URL as an argument to it. But that
was when I had Javascript disabled, and Google did not demand it.

Nowerdays, with Google refusing to function without it, its quite possible
(and even likely) that they use Javascript to send the clicks back. IOW,
without needing the awkward (and rather easy to bypass) redirection.
Another bit information that goes agains his claim (and got ignored).

Nonwithstanding, it *is* still possible that he gets/sees what he claims he
does.

... on the other hand, its also possible that the redirection comes from the
webpage(s) he's trying to go to (something which I also tried to explain).

Bottom line : His problem might really exist, but he's either incapable or
unwilling to consider any other possibilities but for what he came up with
himself, and again incapable or unwilling to do some "bug hunting".

And that makes it *VERY* hard to help him.

IOW, its might not be a(n imaginary) "Micky Mouse problem", as much as it
might be a real problem, but presented/handled by micky.

Regards,
Rudy Wieser

Try right-clicking and copying the link to the Clipboard. Then take a
closer look at it elsewhere.

The result might surprise you.
