#18233 — Firefox v157 How unfortunate

FromDnews <dnews@triffid.co.uk>
Date2026-09-29 20:28 +0100
SubjectFirefox v157 How unfortunate
Message-ID<5d20103a9ednews@triffid.co.uk>
So Firefox 157.0 is released...
Updated and am NOT happy, what's with the round corners in the various
windows/panes.

I don't want rounded corners, I like square corners.

Any known config to return to square corners?

Thanks
Dave

Not forgetting the effing round corners on the main Fx window and the
bookmarks pane are now occupying a few pixels of my Tabs below bar.

Off to userChrome to tweak again... If I can remember what to tweak :-(

Some sites have them, some not. Are they new? I never would have noticed.

They were square in 156.0.1 from which I updated to 157.0

Since the update I've visited a number of sites, and as they are displayed
within the Firefox main window it has rounded corners.

I would have noticed before... As noted in my previous posting, the new
roundy cornered windows take some of my Tab below pixels, cutting off the
bottom of the tab.

I've been to my userChrome file and tweaked a couple of setting to get the
tabs fully displayed again.

Sorry.
I would if I could, but I've already tweaked my UserChrome file to make

Do you actually get rectangles? After changing the settings and
closing and reopening Firefox, I have rectangles with rounded
corners. It's better than the FF 157 default, which looks like a
horse-race track, but it's not rectangles with 90° corners..

When I tested the config change, the main Firefox window/pane, the bit we
do the stuff in, had real square corners.

Dave

And as I noted in an earlier posting, that was the important bit for me
because the rounding of the corners had occupied a few pixels of my under
tab bar.
Meaning my tabs had chopped off bottoms... (painful).

By the time the "set browser.nova.enabled to false" note had arrived, I'd
already modified my userChrome to adjust the tab positions, and as I don't
trust Devs to leave things alone, I put "set browser.nova.enabled back to
true"

I'm still confused as to how you did it. Setting is to FALSE, I've still
got the slight corner rounding. In order, I have menu bar, tab bar, URL
bar, bookmarks toolbar.

Ah! I see what you mean.

"set browser.nova.enabled to false" only seems to set the Main Firefox
window/pane back to square.

The Bookmarks, History panes etc... still seem to have very slightly
rounded corners.

Dunno the answer to that one...

I just tried 157 in Linux.
I kinda like it. I've got that browser.nova.enabled to true.
Firefox now uses a lot of my desktop theme. Checkboxes are colored, buttons have a purple
border, active items are highlighted in purple etc. If I change to my Orange desktop
theme they show through too. I don't see that much in the rounded anything (except the
buttons are more rounded).

I don't know why FF and TB try to look different from native apps on any
platform, surely they should just "blend right in"?

To cover up the fact that they are increasingly incapacitate the users by hiding more and more information. They replace contents and
functionality with makeup.
It maybe OK that a browser does not understand RSS. But it's not OK to hide that RSS is part of the website. On the other hand they built in PDF (with it's security concerns) — the opposite of HTML.
At the end they replace serious work by arbitrary fun work. The serious work has to be done by extension authors, like me, who are severely hindered in the process and have to put in many times the effort to do so.
