Not much, but we have gas The problem with gas here is it caused small earthquakes that damaged houses in the area were they were getting the gas out of the ground so that is sort of halted now. A second nuclear power station is planned here, will likely take a while before it is completed. Many windmils on land, and windmil parks in the North sea, those provide about 33 percent of all electricity, and that number is increasing. When my PSA levels started climbing again seven years after my prostatectomy, I spent 33 sessions in a linear accelerator that pumped about a sievert into me (which didn't hurt the cancer cells as much as we had hoped, alas). For a PSMA PET scan I got shot full of a radioisotope (I forget which one but it had a half-life short enough that the cyclotron that made it was next door) before I went through a scanner donut about three times as thick as your typical scanner. (Fortunately I don't get claustrophobia - I think I fell asleep inside the machine.) There was at least one other instance where I got my heart cranked right up on a treadmill while getting shot up with a radioisotope to check my heart function. Throw in various other things like dental X-rays, etc. So I don't worry too much about radiation; I'm doing pretty well - aside from my prostate cancer cells, and they can go to hell for all I care. -- /~\ Charlie Gibbs | In this world there are \ / <cgibbs@kltpzyxm.invalid> | two kinds of people: X I'm really at ac.dekanfrus | 1. Many ways to skin that cat In 1967 I was working as electronic designer for a company that designed among other things for the army and navy and power stations. Working on a Navy ship almost took my life (somebody made some mistake), And it was not really my thing, I liked video and TV. So was open to something more fun, safer, looking for an other job. In 1968 I had designed and build my own Vidicon TV camera, it was portable and battery powered, It landed me a job at the national TV network here. That was nice, the first 6 month of that were a payed training about everything related to video, audio, studio management, video recording... 6 of us were selected, 2 dropped out (you need to love TV and electronics and be able to work with artists and stressed producers, fix things in minutes, keeping artist and musicians waiting for you to fix the recording stuff costs money and causes other problems.. A black screen in all homes is a no-no. And then an exam... Passed. There is more to it, adventure... After many years in broadcasting I started travelling the world one could say. Worked in the US too. Worked for space stuff Medical stuff I am driven by what is best described as 'curiosity'. Will be 80 years in a few month, still coding and designing stuff.

I remember I worked with Ampex machines back then, HS100 slow motion disc record-playback Many monitor systems... Yes 25 MHz is a lot to drive a CRT, for normal video, 5 MHz for BW was plenty (625 lines). And yet, in 1962: https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/sony_transistor_tv_receiver_8.html It specifies the transistors used. There were plenty available in 1973. We had the Ampex VR2000 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadruplex_videotape had to keep those running. Before that the VR1200 https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Ampex+VR1200&t=raspberrypi&ia=web and before that https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Ampex+VR1000&t=raspberrypi&ia=web Tubes! 1975: Ampex had the AVR1 video recorders, went to a 3 week training in Germany for those (they had an office there), had to repair those if something did not work and that was quite often Millions of dollars stuff... https://archive.org/details/ampex-avr-1-automated-videotape-recorder/mode/2up https://collection.sciencemuseumgroup.org.uk/objects/co447708/ampex-avr1-2-quadruplex-video-tape-recorder-1975-1979
