The private clinic I go to some times (covered by my insurance) changed
the to digital plates maybe a year ago. I was very surprised when I
noticed them reusing the plate without changing the film, and asked.
I did not know there were sensor plates suitable for X-rays.

My dentists shifted nearly a decade ago. They have the 'regular' sensors, and then one extra GOOD sensor they compete for :-) Newest news I've heard, some tech that's 10X as sensitive AND more pixels. Not sure if it's commercial yet. Risk > is something that the average person is very bad at comparing. Of course. low level radiation is simply not dangerous at all, not even chronic exposure. If you received your total annual radiation dose in 5 milliseconds instead of a year, THAT would be slightly dangerous. About as dangerous as a mammogram. DNA has parity checking. Like digital TV that means perfection until the noise (radiation) level gets SO high that the *same* mutation occurs in two strands of the same DNA molecule. And the resultant cell is still viable Nearly all the 'panic' about radiation devolves from the completely erroneous assumption that a chunk of radiation spread out over a lifetime caused equal damage to that chunk delivered in the radiation pulse of a nuclear weapon, that being the only source of 'lethal data' that existed when that assumption was encapsulated into 'nuclear regulation' Years of exposing Petri dishes to radiation sources shows a completely different relationship. Up to an extremely high dosage level, background low level radiation is completely harmless. We have evolved to handle it. Above a certain peak threshold, cellular damage rises sharply, and beyond that mutation starts to happen Needless to say apart from a small area around Chernobyl and nuclear weapons, this radiation level is simply never achieved in practice. -- Climate is what you expect but weather is what you get. When I was learning to fly I was never all that comfortable in a light plane although statistically I was more likely to die riding to the airport. Overall I suppose safety measures are a good thing. When I was a kid bicycle helmets didn't exist except for professional racers and now they are even mandatory in some places. We certainly weren't placed in escape capsules in the rear seat when in a car. My preference was riding in the passenger seat, half standing so I could get a better view to the extent there were two hand prints where the finish on the steel dashboard was worn down to the primer. Seat belts were non-existent. My early career was in the machine tool industry so I spent time in manufacturing plants setting up machinery. Workers, particularly those on piece work, prided themselves on performing dangerous operations without losing body parts, hence the joke about a punch press operator ordering 4 beers. OSHA, which mandated safety equipment and procedures often pissed of the workers who thought little old ladies of both sexes were messing with their productivity.

You put the antique drill in a glass case and then a nice color pic/description of the LATEST units and advantages. A little "depth" never hurts IMHO. "Medicine" in general however, a LOT to be kind of embarrassed about. Old bullshit just would NOT die and generations suffered.

I prefer not to know too much about what they do to me. I take a
tranquillizer pill, and I close my eyes. I had bad experiences, so they
make me nervous.

My old doctor had a felt case with old scalpels and tools, maybe medieval.

Mine uses what looks the same machine, but the result is a 3D
computerized scan. He can look up a single tooth in the computer and
rotate it, find how deep goes the caries...
I don't believe they use chemicals.

They > use photos instead, now made with a electronic sensors, not chemicals. > So very low power. A sensitive grid of pressure sensors could likely do a fair job of it - but might not show "pinched toes" quite as well. Some 'hybrid' tech - pressure sensors PLUS low-rez ultrasound - would surely do the trick quite well and maybe cheaper than those old X-ray units. Have seen some news on medical devices that use triple-tech ... low-field MRI plus ultrasound plus low-rez CAT. Computers can now easily combine the results and create a much higher rez and richer result than any alone. Even Linux has some standard packages for doing MRIs and similar. I wonder if any of those old x-ray units are stored anywhere. Might be useful for imaging other materials and devices and such. At 'salvage' prices, great ! Just keep yer distance a bit :-) Bound to be lots of old DENTAL units in some surplus warehouse too. Building a relatively 'soft' x-ray tube using lab glassware does not seem so difficult. Need a fairly good vac pump. but nothing TOO extreme. You can buy thin little moly metal squares. A 50KV DC supply and you're set. Hey, it is 19th-century tech ...
