If you don't have the same account username on her computer, or never gave login credentials to store (back to credential manager), you probably have to give the special Everyone account full access (read, write, modify). When she defined shares on the folders, was she logged in under an admin-level Windows account? If she was logged under a non-admin Windows account when creating the shares, I would expect she got prompted for an admin password, like for the Administrator account, ow was interrupted by UAC to elevate her privileges to admin. Is UAC enabled on her computer, and not on the others? Are the other computers (not hers) using admin-level accounts trying to share her? https://documentation.n-able.com/remote-management/userguide/Content/nd_adminshare_denied.htm You said she is/was using Bitdefender (full version which has its own firewall), but disabled Bitdefender. You still cannot connect to her computer. Now that you're back on the Windows Firewall, have you tried to reset it? https://www.ninjaone.com/blog/reset-firewall-settings-in-windows-defender/ (discard any popup wanting you to sign up) Another navpath to Windows Firewall advanced settings is to run ncpa.cpl, and click on "Advanced settings". You said elsewhere that when you used UNC pathing instead of selecting her hostname in File Explorer (under the Network node in the tree pane) that you could see the folders. Did that mean you could see just the folders, or you could see what was _in_ those folders, and even open files _in_ those folders? Since she has the Pro edition of Windows, she should have the policy editors: gpedit.msc and secpol.msc. From: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-10/security/threat-protection/security-policy-settings/network-list-manager-policies looks like you need to use the group policy editor (gpedit.msc). The following has a pic showing where you go in gpedit to get to the Network List Manager policies. When I mentioned the Credential Manager, did you see any cached Windows credentials there? There are probably some under Generic for cached credentials used by some apps or service, but I'd look at any under Windows Credentials. Conflicts or differing credentials can prevent you from connecting. If there are some, you could delete them since you should get prompted on trying to connect to her computer. I mentioned SMB before. Verify SMB signing is enabled, and check it matches between the two endpoints. Group policy -> Computer config -> Windows settings -> Security settings -> Local policies -> Security options. Back in compmgmt.msc when checking what shares were defined on her computer (and you can check yours, too), was admin$ listed? Previously you responded "Yes, of course she has shared folders", but that did not answer if compmgmt.msc listed them. Was admin$ one of them? Back in Event Viewer, but under Windows Logs -> System, are there any error or warnings related to network access or SMB? There can be a ton of informational events. Right-click on the System node in the tree pane, Filter current log, and select error, warning, and critical error types to view just those in the log. There could still be a ton of warnings, so you might have to not include those in the filter. Every Windows instance has the Administrator account, and all have the same security identifier assigned to Administrator. Have you tried logging out of your account, logging into the Administrator account, and check if her computer is listed in File Explorer under the Network tree node, and you can use it to connect to her shares? Boy, I'm running out of ideas except one last deparate one: get a fresh install of Windows 11 on her computer to start from a known initial state of the OS. Yeah, you're stuck with having to redo the network and share setups, but it seems all suggestions, so far, have been dead ends. Make sure to save an image backup of her OS partition(s), so you can get back to what she had before even if it means she goes back to being isolated from the other computers in your intranet. You'll also need the backup to restore any data files she currently has left on her computer's drives. Make sure you have the installation media or installers, and any product keys, to reinstall the software -- but don't reinstall anything until you check shares work okay.

I've just read through every post in this thread, and have some
follow-up questions, but first let me summarise what I believe is known:
+ Both the problem PC belonging to your wife and non-problem PCs access
the network via WiFi from an access point (AP) which is cabled to your
router.
+ You can ping the problem PC.
+ You have two PCs, a W10 Pro PC and a W11 PC of identical make and
model to that of your wife's problem PC, and both yours have no problem
accessing and being accessed via the network.
+ You can enter "\\Computer\Share in Explorer's address bar on a
non-problem PC and thereby access folders and files on the problem PC ...
- ... but, although you can see the problem PC in the Network section
of the Explorer Navigator window (ie, in the LHS of it), you can't open
it up.
Follow-up questions roughly in decreasing order of likely relevance ...
On the problem PC, is the Network section of the Explorer Navigator
window populated with the other PCs on the network?
On the problem PC, go into Services.msc, and examine the Computer
Browser service:
It should have Status=Running, Startup Type=Manual or possibly
Automatic (Delayed Start).
Is it running?
Does restarting the service help (allow a minute or two before
retesting)?
Does the problem PC's name have any unusual characters in it?
Particularly, does it end with a '$'?
The same make and model PCs:
Are they both 'as supplied' with Windows installed by the supplier, or
did you install Windows yourself?
Particularly if the former, do they have DIFFERENT computer names, as
required?
If the latter, do you remember doing anything different on the problem PC?
WiFi:
Do you have more than one AP? If so, is the problem PC connecting to a
different AP than the others? If so, what happens when you move it to
connect to the same AP as the others?
Do you have more than one SSID defined on the AP(s), say a private
secure one requiring a network key to connect, and a public open one
which doesn't require a key, and is the problem PC connecting to the
open one, while the others are connecting to the secure one?
Ping (included for trouble-shooting completeness, but, although normally
it would be among the first things to do, here listed last, because
given what is known, it's not likely to be relevant):
Any difference between pinging from a non-problem PC to the problem PC,
and from the problem PC to a non-problem PC?
Any difference between 'ping -4 <Name>' & 'ping -6 <Name>', again in
each direction?

VanguardLH also said a similar thing, but as far as I know, this is
*not* correct.
I asked if Fokke could access such a share *from her ('problem') PC*,
i.e. if her problem PC/laptop could connect to *itself*. The answer to
*that* question was yes. But (AFAIK) none of the *other* PCs could
connect to the problem PC/laptop, by using a "\\Computer\Share" type
path in File Explorer's address bar (or at least he didn't say he tried
that).
See Message-ID: <m794c4FskpsU5@mid.individual.net> for my questions,
his answers and the as yet unknown part ("\\Computer\Share" testing from
other PCs).
Fokke, please tell us if you did "\\Computer\Share" testing from the
other PCs to you wife' laptop? If yes, what was the result? If not,
please do it and give the result.

Rereading those posts more carefully, looks like I was drawn into the
same mistake as VanguardLH made, and that very crucial point is indeed
uncertain.

Also no error? An error is also a result, not the result you want, but
a result nonetheless.
If I try to accessa share which does not respond or does not exist, I
do get a 'Windows cannot access...' error with 'Error code: 0x80004005'.

No, I didn't got any answer or error code. Nothing happened.

Nothing happened. Huh? Your starter post notes an error code 0x80070035. Have you tried disabling IPv6? Run: ncpa.cpl Right-click on the network adapter. Select Properties in context menu. Uncheck "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6). Click OK to save change. Reboot to effect change. Retest access to her computer. When you look at the properties of the shares on her computer, under Advanced Sharing, and click on Permissions, is Everyone listed with Full control, change, and read permissions? Sorry if this duplicates a prior inquiry, but I want to ensure everyone and anyone has all access.

But when I go back, and look again at the share, there is no Everyone. Obviously after I installed it, it disappears again. I did all of this remotely bij RealVNC Viewer. I logged in oh her admin account on her laptop and lookes at the shares. Now there was Everyone with full access. So - I'm not really clear as what's going on. Fokke

Under what account on her computer did you login when using VNC when Everyone was missing? Next you said you logged under her account via VNC, so the inference is you used a different account before. > I logged in oh her admin account on her laptop and lookes at the > shares. Now there was Everyone with full access. When you try to connect to her computer (not through VNC, but as your host on the same intranet as she), are you logged under an admin-level Windows account on your computer? You might have to try using an unauthenticated account (Guest) to see if that works to get to her shares. You could use regedit, but you have the Pro edition, so use gpedit. Go to Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options, and set "Accounts: Guest account status" to "Enabled". I don't remember if you have to restart Windows to effect the change, so restart anyway. This is done on her computer to enable the Guest account on her computer. The guest account is needed for unauthenticated access to a Windows share. You said, on your computer, your Credentials Manager didn't have a Windows credentials for her computer, so see if you can connect to her after she has the Guest account enabled. Also, on her computer, check Control Panel (control.exe) -> Network and Sharing Center, Advanced sharing settings, expand All Networks, and turn off password protected sharing. This enables the guest account (unauthenticated) access. Otherwise, you need an account on her computer under which you can log into her shares. If "turn on password" is enabled, I would've thought you had gotten a prompt to enter your account's login credentials for your account on her computer. Do you have an account on her computer (same username, and maybe same password, as on your computer)?

Meant to add previously that the correct interpretation of this error is
(or at least was, and, in principle at least, should still be the same
or correspondingly similar, even today) ...
Error Lookup tool from ancient XP version of VS:
The network path was not found
WinError.h documentation from same era (text version same as above):
8 Warning
7 Facility = Win32
35 ERROR_BAD_NETPATH
... so that seems something of a contradiction in itself, you can see it
in the network section of Explorer, but the error given is more
appropriate to a situation where you wouldn't be able to see it.
When in a command prompt you do ...
IPConfig /all
... on a non-problem PC and the problem PC, is the IP4 subnet the same
in each case. For example ...
2:30:39 D:\Temp>ipconfig /all
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
...
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.106
... is the third quartile of the address, the 1 in my example, the same
for both machines?
Previously VanguardLH suggested that you run the Event Viewer
(eventvwr.msc) and look in the 'Application and Services Logs' section,
whereas it rather surprised me that he didn't suggest to look in the
section:
Windows Logs
System
What can you see in there that looks relevant? Pay particular attention
to entries with a yellow triangle containing an exclamation mark, which
are warnings, and especially entries with a red circle containing an
exclamation mark, which are errors.
Also, on a non-problem PC, select Network in Explorer, in the right-hand
windows pane ...
<rt-click> in a blank area
Group by
More ...
Select 'Discovery Method' and give it a width of, say, 64
Click OK
Does the problem PC show the same discovery method as the other
non-problem PCs?
I think it would be worth repeating this on the problem PC, even though
I'm not sure how interesting the result would be, given that it can't
see much, if anything.
>>> This code says how to Enable NetBIOS over TCP / IP. I did and

I'm somewhat concerned by this, because historically this was enabled by
default - so I'm wondering if you've done something in there that has
hindered rather than helped - but I don't have a Windows 11 build
conveniently to hand - I would have to restore an image, and am in the
middle of another job ATM - so I can't check on the default status of
NetBIOS over TCP/IP in W11, but this is what I see in Windows 7, and I
would expect W11 to be pretty much the same ...

However, you do have a router and an AP, so does the router have WiFi as
most do, and is it still enabled, in which case effectively you have two
APs, and the question below still applies.

I'm trying to understand if your local network is having a problem with
IPv6. On the problem PC, what happens when you do ...
ping -4 <Name of non-problem PC>
... and ...
ping -6 <Name of non-problem PC>
... and similarly, on a non-problem PC, what happens when you do ...
ping -4 <Name of problem PC>
... and ...
ping -6 <Name of problem PC>
