Have you tried to connect using the local IP address? If not try this:
1) Go to your wife's laptop and at the command prompt type:
ipconfig
This will give you the local IP address like this:
Ethernet adapter Ethernet 2:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.31
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
In the above example you need IP4 address such as 192.168.0.31 or
192.168.1.31 etc etc
2) Now go to your desktop or laptop and launch File explorer and in the
address bar type:
\192.168.0.31
Press <Enter> and you will be able to see the shared folder on your wife's machine.
Alternative is to use the FTP on your local network without using any
3rd party software. Windows 11/Windows 10 has everything built in but
they are not enabled. You can enable them but first try the method
described above using the IP address as it might work.

No access means you haven't given full access to "ALL USERS". I suggest go to your wife's machine and the right-click on the Shared_Folder and choose Sharing tab. Then Advanced Sharing Tab. Make sure the first box is checked which says "Share this folder". Then click on Permissions tab. You will see something like in this picture: <https://i.imgur.com/6fzBIQb.png> After doing all this and clicking OK buttons where necessary, "REBOOT THE MACHINE" TO MAKE SURE THE CHANGES ARE EFFECTIVE. Hope this works. If you want instructions to setup FTP connection on Windows10/Windows11 then post back.

+-----------------+ Non-domain home (LAN) setup
| |
Client Server
Log in using John:12345
an account Mary:54321
that exists
on the other Usually set to "Everyone"
machine to establish initial setup
when setting up the share
I usually set up one account on all the machines,
having the same password, to make login-to-server
easier.
One day I was trying to get sharing working, and
I kept typing in the John account, and the machine
only had a Mary account. And of course it would not
work, but the setup is designed not to tell you
that no John exists when you've done that. Once
I authenticated as Mary, it worked.
The purpose of this model, is an "emulation" of a domain setup.
On a domain setup, the John account has the same SID everywhere.
(You are authenticating against the domain server value of John.)
Whereas, the above technique, the account may say "John", but
the OS assigns a local SID value (number-string) which is
different on every machine. File sharing works out enough
of the details (Takeown-like) so you can achieve a result.
If you were to assign "real permissions" to the model
(instead of "Everyone"), it might well be a lot harder
to understand, what you needed to do to the ownership
of the share-tree-structure.

I didn't know this. I thought technicians would rather spend time doing some hardware stuff rather than windows settings. I take your word for it.

They should. At the minium each should have at least one common username/pw. And that common account should not be configured to be a blank password or configured by toggling off the netplwiz option 'User must enter a username and password' > >> - All device have SMB 1.0(client and server enabled)? > > Yes > >> - All devices have the same services enabled(both Function >> Discovery, ICS, Network Connected Devices Auto-setup, Netlogon, SSDP, >> UPnP Device Host) > > I'll check that. How would I do that? Each of the above items can be found in Windows Services. None should be disabled, each should be configured as follows. Function Discovery Provider Host - Auto Function Discovery Resource Publication - Aut(Trigger Start) ICS - Manual(Trigger Start) or Auto(Trigger Start) Network Connected Devices - Manual(Trigger Start) or Auto(Trigger Start) NetLogon - Manual or Auto SSDP Discovery - Auto UPnP Device Host - Auto > >> - the exact same admin username/pw in each logon account's Windows >> credentials. >> > No. Ofcourse not. I changed it into a local account. Didn't make a difference. I disdabled BitDefender, and Windows Defender, and it still didn't make any difference. The shared folders are still inaccessable. And many thanks for all your help. Perhaps you may still find something to solve the problem. Fokke
